although gambling has been looked down in our society and it has ruined numerous lives, nothing beats the thrill of placing a bet and riding off into the sunset with the winning team. through the highest highs and the lowest lows, when you are in the midst of an exciting game that you're betting on, one can truly say they are living in the moment.  I find joy in gambling even though it has cost me a lot of money, but I also find hope that with one game all that I've lost could be regained.  the man died doing something that he loved, which is more than anyone can ask for.

Then everyone would be on the Knicks. All the talk about the season saving stuff or even making the playoffs. Actually I just don't get it. Knicks trying desperately to get to the playoffs then after that they get to the playoffs..what's next? get swept in the first round or maybe win a couple then go home..Also that hiring of Phil is like raising the white flag..obviously he will overhaul them..so why chase? why not wait another year to get even...Then here comes carmelo not 100% and that last game against the heat..that game would've been a blowout if not for jr smith chucking up threes but luckily it went in...no play at all..just give the ball to jr and get out the way and hoping for some luck...carmelo is like letting jr do his thing while the heat is just cruising along...so what if that three's didn't went in? Can JR hit those crazy three's again? if not? how's there offense? obviously carmelo's not himself...or will tim hardaway jr. or shumpert will step up???

Great read, Scal. I may not agree with all your picks, but I love the information you share, and you showed an unparalleled ( so far ) amount of class with your tribute to Apache.
Keep it up, man. On another note, just because this is the Knicks best shot at a win out of the last 4 games, is it really a good enough play to put $ on, or is this the "Knicks fan" in you, wanting to play just one more?

I remember this feeling of hoping they could make the playoffs just like what happened to the cavs against the bobcats then lose in the end..obviously they're not the suns..gerald green is way better than jr i think..also don't you think the hawks have a much a higher chance to even win straight up against the nets..since brooklyn have all the confidence in the world even if they're up against the heat they know they gonna win..and with the way hawks are upping their chances..

Let's look at the match-ups here:

Johnson-staudamire
Ross-anthony
DeRozan-jrSmith
Lowry-Felton
and anthony is banged up.Knicks are completely overmatched here in almost every position.If you want to talk about the bench,raptors have an edge there too.so your basic idea is that only with max effort new york will overcome this disparity of skill?It's quite difficult to think man...-5 are not too many points here.
You even need to take in consideration the motivations of the Raptors in this one.
With anthony good to go,this one would have been a nice pick,but not like this.

You and I had the same differences. Its good in life to talk to others with a 180 view point as it usually opens your eyes to the blind spots in ones beliefs. Evolving mentally is extremely hard to do because most are incapable of change. Thanks for making this forum a better place as in the decade + ive been here its a rarity.

Great read but in my OPINION, I think you are giving too much love to the knicks and to little to the Raptors but will be a great game. I'm a Torontonian and will watch this game live.  Also the Raptors are in a heated battle for #3 in the East and gives them home advantage for the playoffs as bulls are playing lights out right now as well.  Their is a chance that knicks cover +5 but the raptors win straight up.  In play game for me, hope the knicks start of hot again.  Also if the 1st half goes over, please look at the 2nd half under as it is trend of the raptors to lock down defensively when they give up too much points in the first half.

I don't post much but have to comment on this Scal.What a great, well written tribute to somebody you don't even know.The message is something we can all learn from as life really is fragile and way too short to hold grudges and be a negative influence on others.As we get older we learn that tomorrow is not promised so live to appreciate today.I guess it's just refreshing to see someone with intelligence on this site that actually gets it.I don't give a crap if your picks win or lose and trust me I tail them all.They all come with such a detailed well written opinion.So good luck Scal and thank you for taking the time to write the tribute and for all you contribute to this site.Go Knicks!

Scal, Thanks for sharing.  Yeh gettin old sucks, the body breaks down even when you still trying to think like a young man.  I've accepted my 60 yr old frame for what it is. You really hit hard on my heart today. I really hurt after reading about Apache. 3yrs ago I quit my job to take care of my wife who was dying of ovarian cancer. This was one of the worst 6 months of my life. She couldn't walk any longer, had a tube & bag runnin out of her body from her kidneys shuttin down, changing her diaper, losing my job after 4months only cause corporate didn't want to extend my leave for her, Then 2mnths later she passes. WTF more can one take?  Just pluggin into the Covers site helped take my mine of the situation at times and for that i'm thankful to all who have posted good or bad. Thanks again,.

Great job Scalabrine.  It's one thing to feel the way you do about Apache's passing, but it's another to communicate it as eloquently as you did and having the guts to share it with all of us.  Fantastic job my friend.
