I started listening to Phoenix about a year ago.  Their latest album titled "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" is awesome, it leaked onto youtube awhile back and was released in late June...picked up a copy last night.  Highly recommend it!

A little on the Pop side, but not bad.  I think if XTC, Badfinger and Haircut 100 had sex and reproduced it's baby would be Phoenix.  Those are all bands I like, by the way, so that is in no way a slam.
