Pretty late here & I'm more than a bit "tipsy" as the old folks might call it, but just wonderin what you folks thought of this tight lil band that made a mtn of hits & always rated very highly on my list of great & influential musical collaborations.
So much I could say about 'em but just wanted to get some thoughts from different age groups & peeps who obviously know their shit (be it what it may) & treat it seriously -

Great musicians, great lyrics, great melodies, great band. Some of my favorites:
Babylon Sisters, Deacon Blues, Rikki Don't Lose that Number, Kid Charlemagne, Black Cow, Aja, My Old School, Hey Nineteen... man, I could go on and on.
Little known info: Chevy Chase played drums for them for a short time.

Hear ya LJ - just put it out there cuz I hadn't seen much mention of 'em & to me me, they definitely deserve it. Extremely classic in their own way & exceptional
Heard that about Chevy but never knew if it was true or not -

Yep, never made a bad tune though you would like some more than others. Classic stuff & regret I never saw 'em though they didn't tour for a long time back when I was going to alot more shows. Was always said it was about the sound & acoustics -

Deacon Blues........not bad for a couple of burned out druggies huh?
This is the day
Of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand
It seems like only yesterday
I gazed through the glass
At ramblers
Wild gamblers
That's all in the past
You call me a fool
You say it's a crazy scheme
This one's for real
I already bought the dream
So useless to ask me why
Throw a kiss and say goodbye
I'll make it this time
I'm ready to cross that fine line
CHORUS:
I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues
My back to the wall
A victim of laughing chance
This is for me
The essence of true romance
Sharing the things we know and love
With those of my kind
Libations
Sensations
That stagger the mind
I crawl like a viper
Through these suburban streets
Make love to these women
Languid and bittersweet
I'll rise when the sun goes down
Cover every game in town A world of my own
I'll make it my home sweet home
CHORUS
This is the night
Of the expanding man
I take one last drag
As I approach the stand
I cried when I wrote this song
Sue me if I play too long
This brother is free
I'll be what I want to be
* at the time bama was best team in the nation (winners in life).....and wake forest one of worst (losers)...so college football AND wagering covered in same song !!....."cover every game in town...."

You should really look for the documentary on them. I can't remember the name or even if it was a documentary. The film/documentary was pretty sweet. Isolated tracks of Michael McDonald, interviews with many of the musicians who played with them, learn how to play the Pirdie shuffle, all good stuff. Wish I could be more of a help than a tease.

here's arguably the most versatile guitarist ever...rock / blues / jazz......just one of many studio guys for Steely Dan....this cut maybe too laid back for most of you boys....nice listen after a few losses maybe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH8TJVwF1Yg
