Indie Rock is NOT a genre.... I wish everybody would stop referring at such

Indie Rock is an abbreviation for "Independent" label thus Indie Rock

Independent label is great!!!  We all love youtube and many other internet websites that deliver the music directly to us.  I love that and I get it... but that is not a genre... it is a business model

I hope we can dispatch with "Indie Rock" soon as a genre... it simply is not.

please elaborate

My understanding is that is means independent label... that can apply to anything from classical to rap to country.  Hell almost everybody has an independent label now...

So what defined indie rock as you say it was?

There was a time when the industry was dominated by a handful of major labels and a smattering of smaller ones.
