I Just Bought Some CD's, I'm Desperate For New Music

Pearl Jam - Vs. Not sure what happened to my original copy but I get Elderly Woman... stuck in my head every so often.

 

Black Train Jack - You're Not Alone. I saw them open for many of my favorite bands back in the early 1990's. It's too bad they never evolved and became something themselves.

 

The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium. I'm not really familiar with these guys but am a big fan of the band that kind of preceded these guys - At The Drive-In. Seems decent but nothing special.

 

Chimaira - Resurrection. Another band I didn't know but have seen them mentioned recently by a fellow Covers member with similar tastes in music as myself. This is pretty good but I can't listen to stuff this hard all the time.

 

Recommendations are welcome.

M83  Saturdays=Youth

The best Chimaira album was the first one, "Pass Out of Existence," though "Resurrection" was pretty solid.  New album coming out in April.  I can't listen to them all the time either, but when I want heavy shit, them or Nothingface's "Violence" album is the best cure. 

 

 

The New Slipknot was OK, the new Mudvayne was better, the new (hed) p.e. album was subpar, the newest Disturbed album was pretty good, Taproot's newest album sucks, Unearth's newest sounds like the rest (heavy), and the newest Sevendust wasn't nearly as good as the one before it. 

 

Biggest surprise recently: Metallica's new album was bad ass, and Skindred's new album was MUCH better than their debut album before it.  Might want to give them a listen or two before you pick that up first, they're reggae/rock, nothing else sounds like it.

 

I know what you mean about fishing for something new as well. ..   I was in Best Buy the other day for a half hour and couldn't find anything new that interested me.  Know what I did buy?  Johnny Cash's greatest hits, and Slayer's "Divine Intervention."  You should have seen the cashier's face

Oh, the new Trivium album (touring with Slipknot) isn't that good either.

Also liked the newest Meshuggah album: "Obzen" a lot as well, but it's bass-driven hardcore/metal. . .  not for everyone.  However, if you love heavy bass lines and leads, then you might want to track down their myspace page and take a few listens before you pick it up.  Might surprise you.

Deftones are supposed to be coming out with a new album anytime now, but the release has been halted since Chi Cheng (bassist) was in a wreck/coma.  That happened in early November, and I think he's still in the coma. . .  sucks.

I've tried to talk myself into buying Avenged Sevenfold for a year now and I can't seem to do it.  No idea why.

I almost bought a Thrice album with my other purchases. I kinda like Image of the Invisible by them.

 

Listened to Cog's Bird of Feather, What If, My Enemy, and Run. Not bad but not really my thing.

 

Meshuggah - Bleed. Sounds good but kind of falls into the same category as Chimaira as far as not an all the time thing.

 

M83 - We Own The Sky. Uh... no.

 

With Slipknot I feel like I know exactly what I'm getting. It's pretty good but that's about it.

 

I have Mudvayne's The End of All Things To Come. Two really good songs on that, Not Falling and Silence, but I can leave the rest. I'll look into their new one.

 

Disturbed never did much for me.

 

deftones are one of my top 3 bands. I hope Chi Cheng comes through ok.

 

I'm listening to Static-X's Wisconsin Deathtrip as I type.

 

Alexisonfire - listening to them for the first time. Not sure what to make of them yet but willing to give it a try.

Did you try 5 Finger Death Punch?  I haven't gotten it yet, they fall under the "Atreyu" and "Avenged Sevenfold" category where I can't buy it but don't know why I avoid it

 

 

Dog Fashion Disco?  They're not around any more, but they had 3 or 4 good albums. . . they used a bunch of instruments like horns and shit like that here and there.  Anarchists of Good Taste was their best work IMO, and they are harder to find.  Usually you have to go to a local CD shop that orders everything to find it, not a corporate CD shop.

 

The lead singer broke off and started Polkadot Cadaver, the newest single "Wolf in Jesus Skin" is getting some airtime on Hard Attack on Sirius every now and again.

Heavy stuff, but give Nothingface a try.  Their "Violence" Album was the shit. . .  They're getting back together now that two of them are done with the HellYeah tour, and they should have a new album out soon after a LONGGGGGG hiatus. Same Solution is probably my favorite song from them.

 

Silent Civilian - has an 80's thrash metal feel to it.  Johnny Santos from Spineshank's newest band. 

 

Have you heard Soulfly's version of "Beautiful people?"  The music is great, but the vocals make me laugh

I've tried 5 Finger Death Punch. Didn't like it. The one Atreyu album I have I actually like - Lead Sails, Paper Anchor.

Soulfly's first album is really good. After Primitive I felt like it was getting to be all the same.

I'm actually not a huge Soulfly fan overall, but their hit songs are usually pretty good.  Pain was bad ass. . .  but their complete albums are OK at best.  That's a band that in a couple years I'd like to have a Greatest Hits CD, and that's enough for me.  Max's other band Sepultura just out out a CD last week. . .  haven't heard anything from it, and it doesn't really interest me honestly.

 

Also, might want to pick this EP up from Ill Nino if you find it somewhere.  Track #2 is a compilation with Chino that is worth the low price of the EP. Maybe you can find just that song at a file sharing site or something, but it's pretty sweet.

 

 

try some old Judas priest.  their new cd "nostradamus" is kinda like a rock opera on steroids..priest rules!!
