Lol unto each his own. To simple and stripped down for you?
I can't tell you what 'passes for good rock these days" as there are so many different bands in so many different genres. I just posted this b/c its refreshingly simple imo.
Here is my fav current band out, these guys are awesome:

I gotta agree................none of the stuff posted in this thread appeals to me at all. Some of it sounds like what used to be called "pop" in the 70's & 80's...........it's all very simple................ But, like EddieG said above, to each their own........... choice is a good thing.

Black Balloon sounds really good. I like it. Seems The Kills were definitely influenced by the great Velvet Underground. Thanks for sharing that.

When I think of bare bones rock/r & r, I think more of something like this:

No doubt........."Hypnotized" is still one of my favorite classics.............didn't know for a long time that "The Green Manalishi" was originally done by the Mac.

The famous Santana version of the song "Black Magic Woman" was written by Peter Green and originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac.

Here's an unsigned band with less than 1,000 Youtube views that I could listen to all night. Athens, Alabama's The Shakes Be Mine.

Cool - good to see a couple old, old Fleetwood Mac fans. Of course, Danny Kirwin was a huge part of the Future Games & Bare Trees albums & always liked their earthy yet sublime & somewhat ethereal roll. Would be considered rather simple & slow by alot of folks today I guess, but a classy, mellow sound it was. Hypnotized was 1 of my favs as well as Sometimes, Sands of Time & Woman of a 1000 Years. In alot of ways, liked 'em better then than their later commercialized successes, though that was good stuff too -
