Wow. platypus, that's the best "new" song I've heard in about 2 years. (New to me, of course...) I'll be checking out more of their stuff.
Anyway, searchwarrant, the first song I thought of was Live Forever by Billy Joe shaver

I have a version where he's playing solo guitar and it's great. This video version unfortunately isn't as good.I couldn't find the solo, acoustic version.
Another song I thought of was the Rosanne Cash version of Tennessee Flat Top Box. That has a great pickin'-guitar part in the chorus.
