I have been playing for about 30 years, use to play in bands in college at the local college bars, etc. I had almost every guitar you can think of. I wish I would have kept some of them. Strats, Les Pauls, etc.
The last 10 years, i have just been playing my Martin Acoustic, which is very nice guitar. I got the itch to play electric again. So, I went to my local GuitarCenter and picked up a Gibson Melody Maker (re-make). I also got a Line 6 Amp. For the price, the guitar is nice. But the amp is unreal. Really nice.
But, now that I am back into I feel like taking the Melody Maker and trading up for a LesPaul or an SG.
Just curious if any of you guys play.

I love the accoustic guitar. I've been playing my Guild D25 for the past 25 plus years. I know that guitar better than my own wife.
As far as the electric stuff goes I've got a Black Beauty knock off and a little Fender Princeton Chorus amp. Not much power but it can keep up in a basement jam session.
I wish I had a real Black Beauty

What do you guys think about the Epiphones? They seem to make them a lot better than they use too or they seem to be more popular than they use to be, I went back to guitar center and the kid was trying to tell me that a Epiphone Les Paul is just as good as a Gibson LP. I realize that gibson makes the Ep. I have to be honest I played them both and I really couldn't tell that much of a difference.
Any thoughts?

gut - I bought an Epiphone Les Paul about 6 months ago. I also own a Fender Strat, Ibanez Destroyer, Epiphone Strat, Ovation acoustic/electric, and a guitar I made off a lot of spare parts. The Les Paul is EASILY my favorite of the bunch. I kept it stock, but the guy at the store said the big major difference between the sound in Epiphones and the Gibsons are the pickups. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but the $2,000+ Les Pauls are equipped with a pickup that costs you about $125. . . so two of those, and a $399 Epiphone sounds good to me when compared to $2k I'll let you know if I do it anytime soon, but if I don't, I still love my Epiphone.

Thanks G8Rb8, That's what I thought. Did you see that Gibson is coming out with a Jimmy Page Les Paul? The cost is around $5K. Some of them are signed by Page. Now that would be cool.
