Says the guy who thinks the Orioles will make the playoffs in 2 years.
That is by far the most amusing sentence I have ever saw you write in my entire time here. Thank you so much for that laugh.
Perfect example of your bias and how you can never have any objectivity when talking baseball.
you said before last year Adam Jones was not a great player and you did not think he would be one of th ebest CF after I said he was going to be an AS CF for years to come..... One year later he was an AS.
My judge of talent seems to trump your bias beliefs. The Orioles will have a great team in 2 years when they make the trades and FA signings when the time becomes right. What you fail to realize is they have a great young core and great young pitching coming up. Matusz will be ROY next year, the OF will be one of the best in the league, Catcher will be above league average and near the top, 2nd baseman will still be solid. They have a 3rd base and 1st base prospect that look promising.
The Yankees will be 2 years older and not as good as they are today. You are going to be in for a rude awakening. Just realize I warned you that the Orioles were on the rise and something you should keep an eye on.

Exactly...I think, with the money he had when he bought the Yankees, he could have turned another franchise around.
Here is what I'm saying...if he bought any other franchise at the time he bought the Yankees, that team, right now, would have a bigger revenue income than it has right now maybe with the exception of about 2-3 teams.
So what your saying is hes good for business? if that's what your saying i agree 100% but i dont think being good for business transfers as being a succesful franchise.(championship wise)

I personally still don't think Jones is a GREAT player. I think he's really good but my great and your great may mean different things. I still don't think he will be one of the best Centerfielders in baseball. Players have breakout seasons...lets see how he plays next season.
I'm not even going to argue with you on that 2nd paragraph because you know my feelings on that and I'll be repeating myself.
The Yankees will be 2 years older, yes, but how do you know they won't be as good? Jeter is having one of his best seasons ever, THIS SEASON. Some players get better with age. With all of your "great" prospects coming up, think about it. What if Hughes and Joba somehow become the ACEs they were supposed to be in 2 years...in that case the Yankees will be better. Right now they are going through the postseason with a 3 man rotation...that's something they will change in the offseason. They'll probably get another star pitcher who could or could not help, but if he does help...that's just another player that will help dominate the O's in the next few years.
The O's may be good...but going from 5th to 3rd isn't all that big of a jump. That is...if they surpass the Jays and Rays, which I don't think they will.

That is what I'm saying. He's a good business man when it comes to spending money. He knows what he's doing and, I agree, he's abusing the power properly being on the big stage on New York, but I'm sure his aggressiveness and money he had coming into his time with the Yankees would have made another franchise better too.

Steinbrenner is a good owner only to a certain extent. Yes he does open the checkbook and spend more than anyone else. But it's questionable whether this method has really helped the team or baseball overall. Although the Yankees make the postseason every year they seem more like a collection of superstars than an actual team.
Steinbrenner is great at putting together talent but he hasn't really put together a team. From 1990 to 1993 while Steinbrenner was suspended, the Yankees were able to put together a great collection of home grown talent (Jeter, Williams, Rivera, Posada, etc.) that paved the way to four World Championships. Once he was able to regain control of the team he basically just chased after high profile, expensive free agents while disregarding the chemistry of the team (eg.: replacing Tino Martinez with Jason Giambi after the Yankees failed to win the World Series in 2001). He generally takes the philosophy of trading prospects for veterans, often depleting the farm system and the future for hopes of having a better team now.
The result of his antics have been an overpriced team with questionable chemistry that has not won the world series since 2000 (although this may change very soon). The overall price of free agents are higher because of him and many superstars who were brought up with another organization leave to come to the Yankees (which is bad for other franchises who can't afford to keep their players).
George Steinbrenner has not broken any rules in doing what he did. But to some extent he did help ruin baseball and he hasn't even put together a great team in the process. Now I'm not saying he's the only problem, but it's a stretch to say that he is a great owner.
He's a great owner from the fans'(Yankees) standpoint only. Considering his hugh investment and the disparity between the other teams and his, his return is below average at best.
