True.......waiting for lineups. I think that Sanchez is the type of pitcher who at any moment can throw 7 shutout innings. Mind you with the Marlins' pen...

GL MM. Scaring me off the Rays a bit. Its just to hard to pass up a team like that with Shields pitching. I'm inclined to agree about Petite though.

True...........too many weapons on NYY though. TB is also a paper tiger when it comes to their lineup.....Sean Rodriguez? Elliot Johnson? Carlos Peña? Will Rhymes? After Joyce, Upton, and Zobrist, it's not really that scary.

Joyce can't hit LHP (last 3 years: .190)

TB has the wrong Upton brother

& finally:

Zobrist? Hitting .158 in his last 19 AB, which lowers his mighty average to .208. He also has 38 hits on the year...which matches up pretty nicely with the number of strikeouts he has this year. 38.

In case you're worried about Peña....... he's 2 for his last 15, and hitting .201 on the year... .189 away, .176 vs. LHP, with 35Ks compared to 13 hits. Scary stuff.

Manager Terry Collins will hold Young to a similar pitch count as his last rehab start at Triple-A Buffalo, which was around 90 pitches. Young said he felt comfortable throwing that amount in his start on Thursday, and he thinks he can even stretch it a little further on Tuesday. Young threw six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits in the outing.




SO let's see.......90 pitch cap tonight. If Young only could get through 6 innings with that limit in AAA, he could potentially be out after 4 or 5 innings tonight if he struggles with his command...thus leading the Mets bullpen into action.

Nice stats on the TB guys. Not having Longoria in the middle of that order really exploits how bad that lineup actually is.

It's odd that nobody seems to realize that with Longoria out...it's the equivalent of taking the bullet out of the gun; ie: it still looks scary, but chances are, it can't really hurt you.

Not to mention, Shields career numbers against the Yankees is not great - and he hasn't been the same pitcher this year compared to last and I think alot of people are still expecting the complete game shutouts with 1 run allowed and 120 pitches that he did last year every game.
Just look at other great pitchers last year that this year, not having great numbers - Felix, Halladay ..

Great points MM. Really missing Longoria. And I hate BJ Upton. But idk if I could ever go against Maddon. Dude knows how to get the most out of his players. I know it seems trivial. But there are few managers that impact their team more.
