***4 UNIT GAME OF THE WEEK*** Under 7.5 (-110) St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates 7:05pm EST
When we make our premium selections on unders, we look for starting pitchers whom are in good form, strong bullpens, and poor hitting. I believe we have found that recipe for success tonight, as Chris Carpenter and Paul Maholm hook up in what looks to be a very important game in the NL Central race. For the first time since I can remember, the Pirates are involved in a division race which makes it extremely exciting because 4 teams realistically have a shot at this division. Cardinal starter Chris Carpenter has been one of the best in all of MLB over the last month posting a 1.66 ERA while obtaining 4 wins in the process. On the other hand, we have Pirate starter Paul Maholm who has a 1.93 ERA in home starts!!! Paul unfortunately only has a 5-4 record at home due to a lack of run support. Over his last month, Maholm has a 2.32 ERA with 3 wins. According to ESPN, Pittsburgh is the 6th ranked bullpen in baseball where St. Louis falls into 20th. I believe the Cardinals have a much better bullpen than their statistics may state based on the fact that they have completely revamped from the days of Ryan Franklin. I look for both of these pitchers to throw up quality starts in a low scoring grind it out game. Our Game of the Week's have went 3-1 (75%) thus far so we look to build off that tonight!
INTERESTING STATISTIC- Matt Holiday and Lance Berkman are a combined 7 for 50 off Paul Maholm (.140 AVG).
As always, good luck!
