BABIP = Batting Average on Balls In Play

This stat only looks at balls that were hit into the field including home runs and ground rule doubles.  It's generally used in the SABRmetric community as a measure of luck.  Typically these numbers settle over the course of the season to a range between .280 and .300.  Some elite pitchers can achieve lower season BABIP's but generally their career numbers will trend that direction.  It can be useful in predicting how a pitcher or hitter's batting average will trend over the course of the season.  If pitcher X has a BA of .190 and a BABIP of .210 you can expect both numbers to get worse in his next several starts.  If pitcher Y has a BA of .250 and a BABIP of .325 you can expect both numbers to improve in his next several starts.  That's why it's right next to BA on the stat breakdown - BABIP is a predictor metric whereas BA is a measure of past results.

The same is true for SIERA versus ERA and xFIP versus FIP.  ERA and FIP are better indicators of past results while SIERA and xFIP will tell you how those numbers are expected to trend in the future.  This is what SABRmetrics is most useful for.

heading to a BBQ in a few , can't wait to have a brew and watch the Red Sox on my brother in laws deck with his 50" tv he has mounted on the back of his house , he is a bit of a nut

Even though Fister is having a better season numbers wise, the Sox are much better in hitting splits.  They should be able to slug their way to a victory today.  The numbers suggest that anyways.  Enjoy the game and most importantly enjoy your time with family.  All the best brother.
