The Pirates being a road favorite here is pretty telling. Off the top of my head yesterday, I thought this line would be Texas -120-ish. But Leiter and his xERA of 5.46 is 3.5 runs higher than Ashcraft's xERA of 1.98. Leiter's xBA is .268 compared to Ashcraft's .171, so .100 point difference there. If you dig deeper into the nerdy numbers (and also look back to last year), Leiter just is not impressive and he isn't taking that next step. (I also don't like the fact that he calls his own game - how about letting a veteran catcher do that?). Anyway, I'll take the kid with the better stuff over the kid with the name/pedigree.
