I am knew to wagerline, just wanted to know when picking NHL Winners for contests do i even to need to look at the line? If so, how does the line come into play?

Example: you pick a team that is -140 and you win, you win 100 units for every 100 bet. if you lose, you lose 140 units for every 100 bet.
if you bet a team +140 you win 140 for every 100 bet and you lose 100 for every 100 bet.
