For my money, assuming he wins his prep race, Street Sense is a runaway for 3YO horse of the Year and probably horse of the year as well.
He overcame the whole BC Juvenile jinx and as mentioned in the article he's a nose and head away from being 6 for 6.
Breeders Cup result aside he is the at least the 3YO winner and likely HOY.
And as much as I'm not a huge fan of Borel, I'd give him Jock of the Year as well. He's been nothing short of outstanding in his limited number of mounts at Saratoga, and his record on Street Sense and Lady Joanne speak for itself. Had it not been for SS he likely would have had the mount on Grasshopper as well.

Almost, but not quite...before a race, the tongue is tied with a cloth, like a wash towel...and some of the horses hate it, especially the young ones, who are not accustomed to it.
Part of the problem is that the tongue can't flop "naturally" when it's tied, nor can it be controlled by the animal, so when they are running hard, it gets stuck in their pallete.
Our horse had a real hard time that day...97 degrees and 85% humidity, and frothing because of the tongue-tie. When Graham asked her off the rail she move quickly, but literally gasped as the tongue got caught and she couldn't breath. It scared her off course.
The solution is to put a 'figure eight", a leather contraption that fits loosely over the tongue, but doesn't impede the horse's breathing, nor does it cause the rongue to get stuck in the pallette.

I'm with you on that one, Muck. Nafzger doesn't duck anyone, and when he enters a horse it is with great purpose, so any race SS is in will have meaning for the trainer...even if it's to work the horse in a race like the Hawthorne Derby.

any given saturday had a late start, didnt break the maiden at saratoga, but turfway( million dollar horse), he is is a late bloomer, and going forward he will be better than street sense( imho). LAST two runs, he was going away from the field.

Bull..I love Street Sense as you know, but I think Any Given Saturday will give him all he wants..toss in Lawer Ron and it will be very interesting. At this stage of the game, I'm not sure I wouldn't give the edge to AGS.

I wouldnt bet against Lawyer Ron ever again intill he loses hands down this horse is now doing what he should of done 2 years ago but he is hitting his best stride right now and staying consistant ,

Thsi is the time of year to bet 3 year olds over the older horses..they have matured through their 3 yr old seasons and are entering prime time. Because they are maturing and are almost 4 yrs old at the time of the classic, it's a grerat time for them to jump up and run a big race, or a bigger race than they've run up to this point

Student Council's win in the Pacific Classic was impressive, but at first glance it appears the colt is in over its head with this group. But, what about the ability to improve and qualify in one of the upcoming Challenge races.
