Buy a home and rent it out. You'll get back end appreciation on the home because you're buying at a market low which eventually will improve, and you'll have monthly cash flow from the rent.
Factor out 2 months of rent to cover property taxes and possible repairs/damages you may need to fix throughout the year.

I wouldn't buy a restaurant nor would I buy a car with the money. Invest in things that will appreciate not depreciate.
A restaurant would be cool if you know how to run one or want to own one or have some experience in one. Having a car is also necessary if you don't have one already.

I might inherit 100k. I'm thinking about starting a business. Possibly a vegan restaurant. I'm looking for ideas or investment opportunities.
$100K should not be a life changing event. Although it's a sizable sum, it's quite frankly too small an investment into a restaurant. You'd need deeper pockets for that endeavor.
If you need a car, buy one that is 2 or 3 years old with low mileage. Then you have already avoided about 50% of the depreciation.
Low risk investments. You can't get hurt with any precious metals in this economy.
Don't do anything STUPID.

It all depends what your current income is and what your assets/debt situation is. When my father in law died 2 years ago he left 100 to my wife and 100 to her brother through a life insurance policy. We really didn't need it for anything so we put most toward our mortgage (at the time we were paying 5.75%) and kept some for a rainy day fund which we recently spent on doing reonnovations to our new house. My brother in law on the other hand has pissed all his away and really has nothing to show for it which is exactly what the majority of this site would do.

Put it in a safe investment for your retirement and maybe stash 10k into a savings account for emergencies. I wouldn't start thinking big because 100k can be pissed away real fast.
If you try to start a restaurant with it get ready to work 90 hours a week and not make anything for the first 5 years if you make it that long.

I don't have a college education. I live off waiting tables. I own everything I have including my car which will last me a couple more years. I live with my sister for the time being and she feeds me. I don't do drugs or party. I'm thinking about stashing 5k, putting the rest a fidelity account.
What about opening a yoga studio? It doesn't seem like there would be much startup. Find a couple teachers to hire. Find a cool space to rent and then advertise it. Be a little different from everyone else. Anybody have any input on that
