My girl and I are together for a reason...we're best friends. We're both also highly competetive...She's a competetive figure skater (with fake boobs, imagine the body, I am lucky) and the first time we went it was horrible.......she wanted to win (beat me!!) and found out after her first hole that wasn't going to happen...Just like I wouldn't go on the ice and out-skate her.....I went and bought her a lesson...she wouldn't LISTEN to any advice I gave her, because I'm just David, What do I know???? The instructer tought her how to grip (same thing I showed her) how to address the ball (same) and to keep her head down through the follow through....She obviously is athletic, and quickly got the hang of it (atleast hit the ball straight everytime)....now she doesn't exactly hit it high in the air, which bothers her to no end, but atleast it goes 130-140 yrds and we move on...
Anyway, the bitch can putt like a mo-fo....it's to the point where I have to really try to keep my distance from her (to not lose)...it has become something we both love to do together, and any man who really loves his girl should have no problem hitting 9 twice a month with his lady.....
And do I need to comment on the outfits she wears???? Classy, but sexy as all get out...the rangers always find a way to be near us....I love it and look forward to our outtings...Hell, it beats watching REALITY television or watching figureskating on the tube....and the fresh air and being outside with beer and drinks always leads to a perfect ending of the day (ya know what I mean)..
Hang in there buddy....It's sooooo worth it (as long as you get to go with your buddies 4-5 times a month)

As a competitive golfer and a scratch golfer, I can tell you that if done correctly it will be the most enjoyable time of your life. If done incorrectly it will be the most miserable experience of your life.
1) Have her take lessons. Whether you pay for it or not, it doesn't matter, have her learn the correct way to swing, stand, and grip the club.
2) Something that hasnt been mentioned yet and it the MOST IMPORTANT WITH FEMALE GOLFERS. Get her fitted for clubs. It will make everything so much easier. Trust me on this one. I'm pretty sure most of the Dick's Sporting Goods' do club fittings, or any pro shop in the area will help you out. I know many women who have been playing for years who went to get fitted for clubs, and knocked 5-10 shots off their score.
3) First couple times out, don't keep score. You are there to have fun and fun only.
4) Keep that fun involved. Keep every hole a challenge. Help her to understand that just one good shot makes it all worth it, so forget about the last hole and move on!!

Ok, I'll add...my wife and I golf about 3-5 times during the summer, I then probably golf on my own or with buddies another 30 times for the summer...so I get to, and you should too, time to golf the way you used to - with pals.
My wife actually introduced me to golf, she has golfed since she was a kid, and she's good. So when we play, i don't have to deal with the playing with beginner stuff. I definitely learned to not give advice or coach her on the course. I actually enjoy playing with her, it's very relaxed and I'm not freaking out about scoring.
But my wife doesn't approach golf like it sounds yours has...she's as obsessed as most guys, crazy...just make sure you have plenty of opportunities to play with your buddies (or alone - which I love) - then i see no problem with it

golfing alone is great, walk on late for free, get a few holes in, nice dip.
to answer your question, if shes somewhat athletic and you think she will be a tolerable player then just be patient with her. I mean she's your wife, how could it be a bad time if you 2 can enjoy a round of golf together, i mean shit thats money and you dont even know it.
So good luck and i hope she becomes a good golfer and you continue to have a great marriage

again more good stuff guys, I appreciate it Things are starting to look up. Every afternoon this week, we have either gotten out in the yard and worked on some things, or either worked on putting inside our living room. She is totally committed on getting better, and she is excited about learning and being able to go out and play with me. I will just have to learn to be patient, and try not to make this a bad thing, but try to make it a good thing. Her grip is good, her swing is actually getting pretty good, but what she is finding difficult is her overall stance, not really understanding ball placement inside her feet, and that is really causing her some problems, but its getting better. Its going to be a beautiful weekend, and I am looking forward to our 9 oclock tee time tomorrow. Keep em in the fairways boys.

dude get her out on the pitch and putt, par three courses, practice green putting and chipping, going to the range, getting her lessons will all help. Just taking her out on the course will create a tough situation for the two of you. It is frustrating to watch someone struggle at something new when you have been doing it for years. It is awesome that she takes and interest in playing the game. Practice first and build up her game and then move her out onto the course. Oh yeah and when she gets somewhat decent have her join a womens league and play with her also. This will give her confidence among other women and better her game. Then as she improves it won't be so difficult taking her out to play 18 with you. I am pretty sure she would enjoy that good luck bro. Patience is the key when learning something new.

Have them play from the 150 yard marker or the hundred until the can shot 50 for 9 then the 200, then the reds. Tell them that is the purpose or the 150, a tee marker for beginning players

I wish my girl was even the remote bit athletic, or coodinated. I'm lucky if the remote makes it to me when I ask her to toss it to me from 6 feet away.
Took her to the driving range once, don't think she hit a ball farther than 30 yards and most went about 10 yards (if she even made contact, which was rare) To play 18 with her would be torture for me
