I have been following the story pretty closely and, IMO, at least one of the following must be true:
1). Joe Paterno is mentally retarded and the last 5 decades have been a charade.
2). Joe Paterno went severely senile over a decade ago.
3). Joe Paterno went insane over a decade ago.
4). The most powerful man in the history of Penn State wasn’t really the one in charge of the football program.
5). Paterno knew what Sandusky was and not only went along with the cover up (or at least turned a blind eye to it), but allowed the monster to remain around the program up until about a week ago putting protecting the good name of his beloved school ahead of protecting little children his friend was raping.

What makes it even worse for Paterno is he loved to sit on his moral high horse and bash other programs for things like recruitment violations.Meanwhile Paterno (along with many others at Penn State) was protecting a pedophile who was sodomizing little boys and forcing them to perform oral sex on him in the Penn State showers.
“Hypocrite” doesn’t quite cover it.

it seems people on here are angrier at Paterno than the actual pedophile...
which I find disturbing
I think everyone (expect for maybe other pedophiles) is on the same page about Sandusky so what else needs to be said?
Not everyone is on the same page about Paterno and others who knew yet did nothing choosing to protect the name of Penn State over protecting children from being raped.

I agree with some of that mattbrot. I strongly feel he knew something inappropriate happened.
But Jerry Sandusky was not a coach under Paterno at that time and Joe reported what he was told to his superiors.
Could he have done more? YES.
Was he the one who violated young children? NO.
No he didnt but if u read the report he was informed that a serious situation happened in the shower! With an adult and a 10 year old BOY now if u were told that what would your conclusion be genius?????? Paterno might as well molested these boys by not confronting scumdusky, calling the cops to start an investigation, SOMETHING!!!!!!! Yet he covered it up along with alot of others, and why because they were friends????? This is just the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard.
U my friend r a fucking idiot

My argument is Joe Paterno is not the real devil in all this.
I agree he should have called the real police and done more to keep this bastard off campus.
Should the GA be held more accountable?? I say yes. He witnessed the incident and never called police.
The higher ups lied to campus police and to the grand jury.
But all we hear is Joe, Joe, Joe.
And that's unjust.
What are u in love with paterno or what the fuck is wrong with u?????? Does he invite u to his house and give u fucking back rubs, money, free football tickets?????
Man u are not thinking this thru...... or maybe u like this kind of shit weird-o!

You pick up a phone call the real police-NOT the campus police & you also call the FBI. You take it upon yourself to deal with the situation & don't pass the buck. The inaction of everyone allowed Sandusky to continue to abuse numerous other young kids. They had a chance to stop this monster & they didn't do anything.
I don't know the way it works in Pennsylvania but plenty of Campus Police Departments are real police. If there is another police dept such as The State College Police Dept or the county sheriff they may not have jurisdiction over the campus. And as far as the FBI goes, they have to be invited in unless the crimes are occurring over state lines. At the time the Grad Asst only witnessed the one incident so the FBI couldn't take the case anyway. How many people here want the FBI investigating every case that occurs? If you do then be careful what you wish for.

On most of these campuses, law enforcement is the responsibility of sworn police officers who report to university authorities, not to the public. With full-fledged arrest powers, such campus police forces have enormous discretion in deciding whether to refer cases directly to district attorneys or to leave them to the quiet handling of in-house disciplinary proceedings.
The Penn State police did investigate a complaint in 1998 about Jerry Sandusky, the former assistant coach who was charged last week with sexually abusing eight boys, and turned it over to the district attorney, who declined to prosecute.

The mother of the victim in 1998 called campus police when her son came home with wet hair.

Pretty sure that the sheriff has the power to go on campus and take over and the college couldnt do jack shit about it.
Listen there are so many people who knew about this sick fuck and looked the other way, because they didnt want to stir anything up. If you read the grand jury report, you would see that a janitor caught sandusky with a kid and he didnt do anything, a wrestling coach caught him rolling around the mat with a kid. Who knows how many athletes saw this sick fuck doing it and didnt want to say anything for fear of losing their precious scholarship.
And the asst coach who didnt break sanduskys neck when he saw him in the shower but instead went home and told his dad, should rot in hell, because he could have been the person to stop this fucking monster. Every kid that got raped after that one, falls on him 28 years old, your a grown man, stop sandusky from raping the kid and then call the cops, not your daddy, paterno, ad, college president, you call the damn cops and tell them hes on the floor bleeding because you just beat the shit of him, because he was raping a kid. This guy could have been a hero, but looked the other way like the rest of the sick fucks did.
Bottomline is they were all more worried about winning and the money, then about saving any kid from this abuse. I hope paterno gets sued for every penny hes ever made at that college. More worried about having a great defense and winning games, then protecting kids.

OK. Let me start by saying Penn State students need to STFU and get out of the spotlight. The reputation of the entire university has been destroyed, and anyone who tries to defend Paterno makes the situation even worse. I woke up this morning watching these dopes rolling over news vans and knocking over streetlights for what? In support of a man who chose to bury his head in the sand, while a kid raper continued to go about his business. That business being raping children!!!!!
ANYONE, who was aware of this situation, and it seems that evryone in any position of power in this town were aware, needs to be locked up and/or removed from their job at PSU immediately. I am pretty sure NOONE wants to hear about why Paterno should be excused from this situation due to his contributions to the school or anything else. Looking the other way on this situation pretty much makes you an accessory in my book.
So, as sad as it sems the court of public opinion has ruled Paterno scum, and there is really no way to spin this otherwise.
Unless of course he was a once black pop star with a white glove and a red leather jacket!!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! DON'T STOP TIL YOU GET ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, but seriously if your a student there cut the crap trying to convince people Paterno is innocent. It just makes you look pathetic. You can either just come to grips that you graduated or are graduating from this now tarnished university or you can continue to dig yourself a deeper hole of embarrasment. If I was a junior or below I would start thinking about transferring to Anywhere Else University, because I am sure you are not going to want to field questions about Paterno and child rape for the rest of your life. Just a little food for thought,
