Still Agree With My Original Post: Joe Paterno Is Getting Too Much Heat.

Yes Joe Paterno could&#x27;ve done more. Yes he is the leader of the football program and should be held more accountable. But he didn&#x27;t rape or molest any young boys.He didn&#x27;t witness any offenses and not report them to the police.He never lied to the Grand Jury.Have you seen Joe Paterno&#x27;s house?? Most of us live in better.He has donated a TON of $$$$ to the university for noble things.Joe Paterno made a lot of mistakes in handling Jerry Sandusky&#x27;s crimes. The reasons are many with some understandable and some not. But at the end of the day all you hear about is Joe Paterno and he never violated a child.

If you didn&#x27;t know a lot about this story you would probably be willing to bet a large sum of money that Joe PA was the one that molested children.  Media loves to tear down those that are high up because it will SELL a story.  Why arent they writing about sandusky? Not as good as ripping someone who was done nothing but good their entire life. I think that he built his legacy and benefited from his legacy as someone who was uniquely in the position to make a differance in just about any situation that was presented to him. This was the single situation that could of used his "pull" the most and he failed to do what he could of done (he did almost nothing).

That is hard to ignore (in my opinion). He is no where close to the same level as Sandusky -- but lets not pretend for a second that he does not deserve criticism.

I have a bad feeling that things are just going to get worse and more will come out about the magnitude of this cover up.

Lets face it -- this is a guy who built a moral image on doing what is right and suspending players for drinking, fighting, skipping class etc... Made players clean the stadium when they did bad and made them reclean the stadium when determined it was not done well enough. That is all good and well.

But when this kind of stuff comes out it is hard to take...

Joe Paterno could&#x27;ve done more.But he isn&#x27;t the one who witnessed anything or violated a young boy.The interim coach this week is a guy who has worked for Paterno since 1979. Do you think he knows as much as Paterno??? I&#x27;d have to say yes.Penn State as a university has fucked up and continues to fuck him in this situation.From not firing the GA, not firing Joe Paterno in person, and naming a longtime assistant as interim coach. The university as a whole is lost.

My point about the size of his house is that he has donated a TON of $$$ he was paid back to the school.

It shows his love for the university and his genuineness.

I don't feel Joe Paterno condones molesting young children.

For whatever reasons I don't feel Joe Paterno purposely covered up crimes against children with the conscious thinking of "I have to cover this up."

You could be right but I also see a scenario where this was a huge cover up by many (and for a variety of reasons). Really - both scenarios seem plausible for me.

Either way my guess is that there will be MUCH MORE that comes out about this in the upcoming months or so. And it will probably only get worse.

I think that once this became apparent, the thought amongst those in the know was- Let's hope this just dies down and goes away now that Sandusky is retiring- If we make a big deal of it, shit will hit the fan...After all- these are just a bunch of poor kids needing some mentoring- that's all this was, mentoring...

As an individual working in an educational institution with young adults his entire life-Paterno SHOULD have notified the police or the FBI upon hearing the Sandusky situation &amp; NOT simply notifying the administration. He&#x27;s being crucified for having done far too little given the fact that he was notified a 10 year old boy had been raped. How Paterno has been able to live with himself these last 9 years is beyond me.

I don&#x27;t know for sure since I&#x27;m not Joe Paterno and not a Div 1 college football coach.I&#x27;m guessing his age and generation gap had something to do with it. Another factor his longterm friendship with Sandusky. Another factor the pressure and ego of being the name of the university. And possibly he wasn&#x27;t told the true extent of what happened.Maybe some of my reasons are wrong. maybe they&#x27;re right. I don&#x27;t know. I think we all need to know more info.But I truly believe Joe Paterno doesn&#x27;t condone child molestation and is catching more heat that Jerry Sandusky and others.

I was driving in to work this morning and listening to mike and mike in the morning. Apparently Joe Pa only testified that the red head GA told him that he saw Sandusky groping and touching a kid inappropriately in the shower. Where as the GA stated that he told him that he saw him having sex with the child.

Mike Greene was trying to support Joe Pa and saying that if his version of the story is true than it takes a lot of the heat off of him because it is not like he knew that Sandusky was raping him.

That made my blood boil as I was driving. So the implication is that fondeling a boy in the shower is ok but sex is not. that is crazy.

the point is that regardless of what he knew I think that we can all agree that he knew something. and even if the version he knew was only fondeling and not sex... well guess what? that is enough.

I agree with some of that mattbrot. I strongly feel he knew something inappropriate happened.

But Jerry Sandusky was not a coach under Paterno at that time and Joe reported what he was told to his superiors.

Could he have done more? YES.

Was he the one who violated young children? NO.

NO ONE did anything &amp; they ALL knew about what Sandusky had done to this 10 year old boy. The fact that no one ever called the police or the FBI is simply unconscionable.

Not calling the police is unacceptable. But at the same time the police were notified. They investigated and either didn't file charges or did and the DA didn't feel enough evidence was there to pursue a case.

And the University gave xxxxxx to Jerry Sandusky after 1999. Not Joe Paterno or anyone associated with the football staff.

You pick up a phone call the real police-NOT the campus police &amp; you also call the FBI. You take it upon yourself to deal with the situation &amp; don&#x27;t pass the buck.  The inaction of everyone allowed Sandusky to continue to abuse numerous other young kids. They had a chance to stop this monster &amp; they didn&#x27;t do anything.
