Not to sound maudlin or grandiose for a title, but....
These are some things I have to write down for others to see before I am gone...
Some points I want to stress right now;
1. I have not been told I am going to go away tomorrow or anything.
2. I am not a valuable member of covers, just a friend and family member for years who respects each and everyone of you.
3. These are notes I have to get down before anything happens to me, which may happen sooner than I would like.
4. This may get moved to "the box" or whatever. I don't care. These are simply writings I must share before I go, it's as simple as that.
This is a good place for sharing thoughts. I have enjoyed the moderators and the members of these forums for a couple of years now. I have learned a little and laughed a little.
Some random thoughs for a start, since I am not writing a fucking book or anything.
I am 42 years old. Our education system was different when I was young. Children were not immersed in the learning culture that they are now. It was weird then, especially if you were brought up in a working class family.
There is a song that goes through my head constantly, and it has since I was 6 years old (!) If you can remember back to that time, those of you that are old enough (early 70s), it was right after Kindergarten, when you went for half a day to school and you were babied ha ha. Anyway, I went to school with a thermos and a lunchbox to my first day in first grade. I knew nothing. My mom and dad sent me to school with a luchbox (and said thermos) and some money for...well, whatever. I had no idea what I was doing. When lunchtime came, I went to the cafeteria like I was told. I got in line like I was told. I paid for a little half pint of milk like I was told. I ate my lunch and drank my milk.
I then made it through the rest of my day. Somehow, because I didn't know what I was doing ha ha..... Anyway, on the way walking home by myself, I realized I still had this thermos in my lunchbox. It was full of milk. Somehow, I got confused throughout the day and bought milk when I already had milk in my thermos. Now what? I did not want to get yelled at by my dad when I got home for having milk in my thermos when I bought milk I didn't need. Please don't laugh...well OK go ahead. I still to this day don't know why I was sent with money AND a lunch by my parents. They are both gone now so I cannot ask them.
Anyway, being all of 6 years old I stopped at the corner of two streets about 3 blocks from my house and sat down in a lawn and decided to drink my milk from my thermos. While sitting there somebody drove by with their stereo blaring an 8 track ( I imagine) that carried a song to my ears that stays with me forever. This song rang in my head, and still does, forever..... I did not realize until about the mid 90s what it was because I never heard again until then. It was "Fearless" by Pink Floyd! Weird, huh? It took me about 25 years to find out what song haunted me since my first day of first grade! So when I get home, there's my dad. He takes my thermos out to wash it and asks me where the little metal inside cap is. Apparently, there was this inside cap that went inside the outer cap, and I had inadvertently left it on the lawn on my way home. I acted dumb, which was not difficult, and said I didn't know what happened! Boy did I get yelled at!
It's thoughts like these that flow thorugh my head all the time.
**Note** If anybody wants to chime in with some funny comments or wants to make fun of me or whatever, I will not take offense. I like it when we make fun of each other and have some fun here. Again, these are just thoughts I want to share before I go, and Covers is a great place to share thoughts, even at the risk of being exposed to the core. It's cheaper than writing a book ha ha.
