unless it's an english class, he has no business doing so
if the student wrote a paper for an english class that contained historical or scientific inaccuracies, it wouldn't be the english professor's responsibility to correct those errors

Wrong. Wow. Very wrong.
Did you go to a college or university?
It is the obligation of ALL professors to correct blatant mistakes in thesis papers. They are not only teaching the subject material, but also how to write effectively on that subject material.
Any professor that does not do so is a massive failure.

Poor professor is trying to teach and he's got white girls getting into arguments in his class with black kids over who is more oppressed!!!! GIVE IT A FRIGGIN' WRAP!!!
You want oppressed? Move to China or Cuba or North Korea or a similar place and wind your neck it.
But it's California, where everyone is a victim!!!

The gist is a white professor corrects black student's grammar and punctuation on a college paper. He must be racist.
Why would a professor do such a thing. Is it his business to correct that oppressed student's paper in such a way.
Next thing you know medical school instructors will hold minority students to the same standard as they do white people.

The very fact that you were too lazy to actually read the article says everything. And it reduced what you have to say to moot.
Perhaps Phoenix Online professors have no such obligation. But professors of Education who are accepting dissertations ABSOLUTELY DO!!! C'mon man....this isn't that hard to understand.
Here is a snippet of what you refused to read:
“First, I have a practice of being rather thorough in the papers
(dissertation proposals) the students were submitting to me and they
said the grammar and spelling corrections I was making on their papers
represented a form of ‘microaggression,’" he said. "I have attempted to
be rather thorough on the papers and am particularly concerned that
they do a good job with their bibliographies and citations, and these
students apparently don't feel that is appropriate.”

If this professor treats everyone the same (in terms of how he corrects their papers), then who gives a flying f?
And if he does, I really hope he comes back and tells them all to stick it up their a$$ rather than have town hall meeting to lend any sort of credibility to these morons.
Once again, that is if he is treating people the same in regard to how he corrects/grades their papers.

Why don't we just give everyone a degree for showing up now. Of course I think that is becoming the norm judging some of the recent college grads my company hires.
Seriously I think the the your/you're there/they're/their differences are completely lost after reading some emails I get.

This is insane. Correcting grammar is aggressive?

as a professor how do you justify not correcting a mistake if it's obvious enough to notice? I always learned from those red notes on my papers and tried to avoid repeating them in the future.

25 students, yes 25 (out of ten of millions of college students), protest a paper which contained grammatical errors over a year ago, and Canovsp finds it on what is essentially a media blogging website, and he believes it's worth a post in the GD forum on New Year's Eve, so he can spout about those damn whiners accusing everyone of racism (it was 25 fairly misguided students...a year ago...)!
In comes his homogeneous cavalcade who just are up in arms about the entire thing :::fists on hips people::: :::finger-wagging galore:::.
Oh, this entire things apparently resulted in... absolutely nothing which is quite relevant a YEAR after the fact.
And that folks, is how Covers.com GD forum has functioned since Day 1.
Enjoy.
You'll fit right in here if you're like Canovsp.

A student is at UCLA and can't write properly? Standards must be low these days
Members in here cry about others not knowing how to write and using 'there' instead of 'they're". But somehow a professor that is trained to teach is not allowed to correct others.
The professor should have given the student a failing grade without correcting the paper. Send the student back to a JC.

You went from an A+ to an A-.

And then the students would have complained that the professor flunked them for no reason and that he was a racist.
You can never win with these clowns.

Folks, even months after the fact, these buffoons are still spouting the exact same rumors that were started the day after and repeatedly endlessly on Fox News. This is where there mindset starts and ends, facts be damned.
This is a poster who continually tries to correct others on this site for everything from grammar to alleged fact and he still doesn't realize Darren Wilson did not even have close to a 'broken eye socket', one of the most blatantly false rumors of the entire occurrence.
