professional gamblers

Guys, I am very serious about becoming a professional gambler and was thinking about moving to Vegas to pursue my dream. I have spent my whole life around the world of gambling and personally feel like I can be one of the few people in this world who make it in the sports gambling world. I put trials together to see how I do over the years and have had very good success with seasons in the 58-60%, but I do put in a lot of time handicapping.  I am in college, but I put in atleast 5-6 hours a day doing research and I would love to put in more time being able to do this as a professional.  I know that is a rarity to make it in this field but I have confidence that I can succeed.  Anyways, I was wondering what you think about the fact that Vegas supposedly doesnt accept any big plays anymore and how all these "wiseguys" are having trouble getting in big bets in Vegas now?  My main question is there is all these professional handicappers saying they live on the east coast, so my assumption is they are using offshore books, but as a professional when this is your only source of income, how can you honestly trust these offshore books so much and it seems weird that you have to report winnings on your taxes as a professional gambler on something that is illegal like gambling with these offshore gambling websites.  I'm taking a shot and thinking about risking it all in Vegas, but can I stay on the east coast and not give up everything and try to take a chance with the offshore books?  If I end up winning through that, do I report something illegaly on my taxes?

The fact that you are considering moving to Vegas to do this tells everyone you are already in way over your head.

if i had one i would rather do that and not have to worry about the taxes and being paid by offshore sites, but i dont have a book or know a book so thats a no go

yea but its also illegal and you have a chance of never getting paid with these offshore books

what do you mean by juice the vig?  cause i only bet ATS even offshore and those are always 110 to win a 100 also

How much are you making currently offshore and why do you think you'd be able to make more in Vegas?  What's your bankroll?  And please don't ask what a bankroll is.

I know what a bankroll is buddy i've been around gambling my entire life and I had heard the term juice but wasnt familiar with it and had a feeling it was another term for the vig...I don't think I'd be able to make more in Vegas but it is legal there while offshore books are illegal for me to gamble on because I live in the U.S. and I also wouldnt have to worry about getting paid cause a lot of offshore books stiff people

Do you know what your saying wake?  Your criticizing me and there is nothing wrong with that statement.  It is illegal for people in the United State who aren't from Nevada to gamble with the offshore books.  What the hell is so amusing about that besides the fact that your an idiot.

Look, personally I think you are posting this as some joke, so I'm not going to humor you by engaging in a long back and forth discussion.

All I will say is, you find me one person who has ever been prosecuted for placing bets online, and I will rescind my statement.  I am not even willing to accept your statement that it is illegal, but my point does not hinge on that.  My understanding is it is illegal for banks to transfer funds for you, and illegal for companies to take your bets.  Even if that is not the case, it is clearly a law that is not enforced when it comes to individuals. 

You are talking about doing this for a living, and you are willing to give up on reduced juice.  Go ahead and run some numbers and projections and tell me the difference in the amount you will make at -105 as opposed to your -110.  I just do this as a hobby, and I can't even remember the last time I laid -110 on a single bet.

 

I am not saying that it is enforced, but it is illegal.  As for giving up on reduced juice, that definitely makes a huge difference but at the same time dealing with these offshore books you still are taking the risk of not getting paid thats all i'm saying.  I know you can say deal with the reputable books and you'll be fine, but anything can happen and they dont have to give you your money and theres nothing you can do about that.

Your concern about offshore books is a VERY VERY IMPORTANT AND GOOD ONE!!!! Betjamacia sucks because they have -110 juice (but they payout quick and good). Still I would not use them.
