Most deaths due to misuse, not abuse

While illegal consumption of opioids is growing, pain experts believe that most people die from overdose have a legitmate precription for the pain killer.

Opioid with alcohol could cause someone to stop breathing while they sleep. It can cause liver damage, and cause someone to have their colon removed...etc.

Flordia oxycodone caused 1,185 deaths in 2009 and recently passed a "pill mill" law that tightens restrictions on pain clinics and physicians who prescribe pain medications.

It damn sure ani't no way to live...but the people who are really hurting that take pain medication was else can they do for relief.

Pain's a MF

Lucan, admittedly, when I am/was getting legitimately needed pain scrips, you could tell the obvious fakers in the doctor's office....

Commonplace as mentioned in Florida.....

Do not take a suboxone and then take an opiate within at least 24 hours, you will get sick and be put right back into withdrawl....that is why it will keep you clean if you do it right.

Hammer, my gf was addicted to percs for 10 years, as of the last 6 months or so she has been going to a sub doctor, and has now become addicted to those. I'm at the end of the line.

My question is why the sub doctor would continue to perscribe her 15 pills/month, or 1/2 dosage each day.

I also recently found out she has relapsed on percs, and subsequently takes those in place of the subs, if her script is running low.

Any suggestions? Shouldnt she be weened off the subs?

had my run with a crooked doc during my twenties. I don't blame him, i blame myself. Could have easily died when i was 27. Certainly not going to preach about it to anyone, but if you think it's not going to be you, you're dead wrong. Good luck to those who abuse them, you will need it somewhere down the line.

OK....

Some suboxone Doctors believe in being on suboxone "maintenance", meaning long term. They will tell the patients your addiction is a disease and if you had diabetes would you stop taking your insulin??? then why stop taking the drug (suboxone) that keeps u off the pain killers. you get what I am saying?

It is very hard to understand and I feel your pain cuz this shit is really hard to deal with what your going through....but relapse is part of recovery it is going to happen. You have to find out if SHE actually wants to get clean from the percs and is READY to stop completely. Because this is not going to work unless she is completely ready to give up opiates. Suboxone can be a great way to do that and it might take some longer than others to "taper off" of the subs....BUT if she is using PERCS in between suboxone doses then she should not even have the suboxone in the first place....she is just using it as a crutch to not get withdrawls from the percs.

I bet what she is doing is MOSTLY taking percocets and then when she cant find any of those she starts to withdrawl and goes back to the only thing available that will make her feel ok.... SUBS

I dont know her exact situation and everything that has happened but let me know if I can help more or if I even answered your questions at all. It is a tough situation.

Damn thats easy...

Where i live they put doctors in jail and shut them down. Its got doctors to scared to write anything. I really can't understand why when they go to school so long to learn heath related issues. They know best (right).

Thats what they are there for, to help.

It's the fucking abuser's screwing everything up.

I have these's 3 things on my brain, and i have bleed on the brain from one. The brain surgeron told me i will bleed again and when i do i will get these bad headaches while bleeding. Theres a chance when they bleed they will not stop and i will die.

Try living with that thought everyday, not knowing if when you go to sleep, you will wake up again.

Talk about bad nerves....but do you think they will give me nerve pills HELL NO.

Some doctors cause people to hunt for drugs on the streets and then when they run out of money they steal...etc. Doctors corrupt the world and then the cops put people in jail and take their money.

While at the brain surgeron's...I held up a precription of Lortab i had in my pocket from a past kidney stone and ask him could i take them, and he said i don't write them...i told the sob i didn't ask if you wrote them i ask i i could take them.

Anyways, i had the MRI done through this nero doctor and 7 months later is when i went to the brain surgeron thats when i found out i had hemmoraged some. The whole 7 months the nero doctor never told me are give me nothing more then ibuprofen for headaches.

I told that asswipe off now i'm tagged as an abusive patient threw my insurance company!

I'm not saying i would take pain or nerve pills everyday, but i sure would like them on the fridge just incase i have a bad day.

Thanks DrJ...   .I appreciate the kind words, and I'm thankful to have gotten through some hella back pain/surgeries. feel good noww with tons of walking, nutrition, light working out, etc.....

Kinda why I figured that I don't ever get a buzz. The distance they (opiates) take a person that abuses them from sober to buzzed..

.....is most likely about the same distance from horrible pain to just normal and functioning

Glyde, my general rule is just avoid cars and driving.....

I obviously don't have as hard a viewpoint on the whole thing, but I think mixing different pills is scary.... (sleeping crap, valiums, xanax, etc.).....

......but, hell, my dentist would give me percocets without me asking him for a couple root canals and wisdom teeth.....I guess dentist stuff is kinda nightmarish though....

I remember when percocets would make me itch if I took the amount needed to allow me to sit up without feeling like I had a knife in my back.....

kinda like right now... BRB

The link BigDH28 put up about FL pain centers actually had my first pain management doctor. I had my attorney fax my 6+ inch medical file of everything me, and it blew up his fax machine....No shit.

Ironically, his wife is currently a sitting municipal judge in Tampa....The guy sees easily 80-100 people a day, at a $100 a head....and I was one of only perhaps 20% of people in there that had health insurance....That's another way that you can tell that people are reselling their scripts...Without insurance, 90 oxycontins 80mgs cost about $700-$1000 depending on the pharmacy.and these scumbags trailer trash w/out insurance, clearly didn't have jobs.....The people getting them were just total white trash, and probably barely paid their rent. This doc also owned the pharmacy in the same building, and the guy should be in prison....He had so many damn fakers in his office, it was annoying as hell...

I switched to a regular internal medicine doc in the same building as 2 of my surgeons. No slimy dirtbags there. Regular docs don't tolerate that shit.....One of my surgeon's in same building is Dick Vitale's son-in-law South of Tampa....Cool as hell guy.

lot of herion addicts I worked with used to come to me asking for benzos and they help with withdrawal and can give you a nice feeling off of methadone (which they get from their clinic)

I just have a bad bias against drug seekers because they think they are slick, but when you call them on it, they go ballistic

Deadly shit-----Wife has a sister in out of state in Chicago, that apperently just OD'd on what the croc doc was prescribing her! She took as recommended--as her husband gave to her at times she was supposed to-----Methadone,oxy 30, xanax, and koladapin were in her system----she had seisure, went into coma-heart stopped in abulance on way to hospital, and stopped 2 more times at hospital!! Been in coma for days now, and on heart machine to not have heart stop again! They say heart damaged-but will repair in time, and i guess gonna put that tube in throat-to see if she can talk and determine if any or how much brain damage has occurred!! Sad tradgedy-as my wife obviously is upset and flew up there, and now i even suffer, as all responsibility at home here falls on me------and its hard having to do everything, along with taking care of a child!!!!  POINT is-dont get on if your not now, and get off if u are on,,these pills are dangerous and not good for any health at all!!!!!
