Just my two cents but what do I know.

If you are on the course thinking about specific swing thoughts each time you hit the ball during a round. You are fucked.

Your mind is your worst enemy and when most guys hear some technical swing bullshit. It's a combo for disaster because 95% of guys do not know how to apply most of the shit technical guys throw at them.

There is a lot to the phrase from Happy Gilmore "find your happy place". I am a bigger believer of attitude and mental state. When you are in the zone if you stop and think about where you were at mentally. You will find that your mental state is completely different when you are hacking it up. Separate the two and work on your thoughts. The key is to find your "happy place" and you will find yourself on the winning end more often. But like I said your brain is the biggest obstacle on the course.

I got to the point where it is not possible to be any better. It is simply a matter of my mental state. I have shot 64 in tournaments and a comparison to where I let myself get. My last 2 rounds as a pro I shot an 86 and a nice 84. Problem was I had no confidence in myself and could not channel my thoughts anymore. I had lost it and everything was crashing in around me in my world. I missed my last 7 cuts and ran out of money

I view the majority of guys who give golf lessons as lesson salesmen. It's all about your money and all one of these guys needs to get credibility from an average golfer is mention technical swing terms.

I gave lessons for a short time and it was unreal how fucking stupid people are when it comes to golf and lessons and the reality of what they are doing. You can be told all you want but people I dealt with had jobs, families, etc just don't have the time they need....People think they take a few lessons and magically start shooting lower scores.

And where I am from the most successful lesson pros are the ones who can sound the most technical after watching you hit balls. Because they sure sound like they know what they are talking about

Go play these same lesson pros for money and they are reliable ATM machines.

    salty

what tourneys? local city events, cali zona or florida mini circuits, triple a golf tour, canadian, over seas?...

the bs i thru out are not specific techniques. its just what i always say to my dumb ass while goin thru my routine thats all. helps me not think of anything else then what im about to do.

my game changed for the better once i started sayin this bs check list to myself. my mind was no longer a competitor, no other thoughts entered the brain. no outside world bs, nothin. just thot about what to do before swinging. sh*t sometimes i can hear my mind saying it as i hit the ball...  ...follow thru...hold the pose!...

i agree with ya and have said it for a long time, golf is a pure mental game. the most difficult game mentally because its just your swing and your mind ither competing with or assisting each other. if your mind isnt on point with good vibes dont golf. itll be a terrible round. and like ya said, 90 plus % have problems and cant break 100...the brain is one tuf gadget...

i agree that no one wants to hear about whats wrong with their swing, especially during a round. itll f*ck with the mind. did for me once when i asked a friend what to improve technique wise with my swing. my game went to sh*t for about two mths or so. pissed me off cause it was during my most consistent time of playin at about a 7 hcap. he didnt want to say anything, shud of listened to that first...

i agree that local pros shud not try to correct a swing by changing it to some standard sam snead ben hogan type bs. just simple basic understanding and improvements to their own swing is all any pro shud do to a rec golfer. the head pro i knew while working at a track for a while was great at this.

and yea its easy to compete or beat a local pro because they hardly play. at least if their any good at their j.o.b. they hardly play. if your local pro is still scratch, then he isnt busy with lessons...

    golf is good...

    beer n tweed n golf...

ocd, I was not trying to call you out for anything you said prior, I was just saying that because I am a simple man.

I try to have this routine on each shot.

    (1) visualize, (2) half practice swing, (3) set up, (4) ask myself am I comfortable with my balance, (5) maybe spit then pull the trigger.

I played as a junior in the state tournaments and did well. Quit golf and did not persue scholarship offers. Held bad ass jobs. Quit in 2004 and played a series of failed developmental tours. ASGA, and US Pro golf tour and a one day tourney tour in Texas. And single entry into various events as non member.

I was and am a better gambler than a tourney player. When I get in tournaments I seem to get 79-a-titus one day out of four.

I have issues beating myself up when shit is not going my way. I lost the ability to "find my happy place" when my life was on the line. A whole different feeling when you leave for a 20 hour drive that you know you can't afford the $2200 that week it's gonna cost if you don't play well. It is a love hate type deal and sitting in hotel rooms in random towns will make you go insane! Way too much time to think. So most of my highlights involved what happened at night at bars when I would tell bitches I was in town for the golf tournament

I was just talking to one of my good friends about how when we were younger we never saw us not playing today.

I did not play for the last 2 almost 3 years and just now getting the drive to play. I have played several times this year and it does not take long to warm up a Rolls Royce

ocd, I was not trying to call you out for anything you said prior, I was just saying that because I am a simple man.

I try to have this routine on each shot.

the bs i thru out are not specific techniques. its just what i always say to my dumb ass while goin thru my routine thats all. helps me not think of anything else then what im about to do.

my game changed for the better once i started sayin this bs check list to myself. my mind was no longer a competitor, no other thoughts entered the brain. no outside world bs, nothin. just thot about what to do before swinging. sh*t sometimes i can hear my mind saying it as i hit the ball...  ...follow thru...hold the pose!...

i agree with ya and have said it for a long time, golf is a pure mental game. the most difficult game mentally because its just your swing and your mind ither competing with or assisting each other. if your mind isnt on point with good vibes dont golf. itll be a terrible round. and like ya said, 90 plus % have problems and cant break 100...the brain is one tuf gadget...

i agree that no one wants to hear about whats wrong with their swing, especially during a round. itll f*ck with the mind. did for me once when i asked a friend what to improve technique wise with my swing. my game went to sh*t for about two mths or so. pissed me off cause it was during my most consistent time of playin at about a 7 hcap. he didnt want to say anything, shud of listened to that first...

i agree that local pros shud not try to correct a swing by changing it to some standard sam snead ben hogan type bs. just simple basic understanding and improvements to their own swing is all any pro shud do to a rec golfer. the head pro i knew while working at a track for a while was great at this.

and yea its easy to compete or beat a local pro because they hardly play. at least if their any good at their j.o.b. they hardly play. if your local pro is still scratch, then he isnt busy with lessons...

    golf is good...

    beer n tweed n golf...

A good phrase that is always a mind fuck to most during a round....

"Hey man, do you breathe in or out in your backswing? I just realized I hold my breath start to finish. I can't believe I hold my breath for 10-15 seconds every shot."

Then you will see that guy fucked up monitoring his breath and even breathing in during his backswing

step back and pick a target as part of the routine...

    always got priceless comments...

"maybe spit then pull the trigger"...

...i always gotta pull up the left sleeve then spit before my swing...tigger didnt patent that bs and we dont do it to be like him..

i smell ya about tourneys. i knew a few cats like yourself who cud tear up a track in a $20-100 skin buy in with several 4somes. but come state fair tourney time or when triple a golf, then called the "nike tour" had a local event, they always stumbled out of the blocks...i think its because they didnt drink while playin in the tourneys... once a few beers were slammed, birdies came a plenty...

same sh*t happened to me a few yrs ago. my world got chaotic and i didnt even care to pick up a club. just jumped on board again last yr and this yr tryin hard to enjoy golf w/o expectations.

just got done driving up and down the pch cali coast and hit up some courses all last week. good times are back while on the course and i only broke 80 once this yr so far. i found cosmos' serenity...

...yea you can get into a rec golfers head pretty easy and have it f*ck up their whole day...im a cheerleader on the course tho. everyone quickly digs playin with my dumb ass. i root for everyone. even if money is on the line. all is good. i enjoy good golf shots...

thanks pops for teachin me golf...

but pops if ya wud of pushed me tho..i cud uh been a contender...i cud uh been somebody...

I golfed in high school, I know the basics, I'm trying to figure out what I started doing wrong when I took it back up that made me develop a hook... its that right wrist... swinging with too much hands at the bottom of the swing.  Some great advice in there Shrimp

I just got to the 4th page - I know what you mean salty, if you're thinking you're fucked.  That's why I'm at the range so much while I figure this out

Spit I am sure you probably have a routine at the range.

My advice is to make sure you are practicing specific shots or scenarios while on the range. Not just hitting a specific club. Having practiced certain shots thousands of times sure comes in handy when out playing.

There were days where I would just work on one shot and hit 1000 balls a day.

I know a lot of guys who just hit balls mindless at the range. Those are the same guys on the weekend country club gambling teams as the C and D players. Or a few of the ones I am thinking about are.

    spit

i heard ya bring that up before and said you were a good player, how bot your hs team? my team sucked bad each yr. i played golf after bball was done strictly for the 4 days of free golf and to get out of school early.

i had to recruit hard for a fifth and sixth player so we cud have a team and for me to get my free golf on..

this was back in the early mid 90s before golf became coool.

i just had raw talent and dl3 distance but just picked up the game a few yrs before hs. wknd warrior with pops once a mth. and i was number two on the team...

my avg was about a 42 for nine, the same as our number one...yea we sucked bad spit. we'd play the other hs b teams..and lose...bad..

but damn it was fun to swing by the pad before each practice or game day and pick up a mickeys 40 water chillin in the freezer since lunch time and thro it in the bag.........fun ass timez...

    salt good call...

key shot to always practice besides ol mister three wiggle is the 100 yarder...

back in my caddyshack days id get some proshop balls, jump in a gcart and head out to a hole the last hr of each wrk day. park at the 100yrd marker, and slam balls...it was great practice. then go out to the range after and kick it with the other scrubs slammin beers and gballs into the moonlight...

    cool tips i've read here....

for the past 2.5 weeks ive been hitting 103-108 with my new mizziez. I really need to fix my approach shot. my drives hit well...my short game under 130yds is good but my 2nd shot always hurts me (using 3-4 iron). my putting has improved, still trying to keep it 2 putts and under but that doesn't always happen.

someone told me to try and practice/play golf with less clubs. has anyone tried that? if you had to pick, i dont know, 3-4 clubs, what would it be?

Are you talking about Polara balls? If so, they do not work, trust me. I have a terrible slice and these things slice all the same. They do however, seem to bounce and roll quite a bit longer then traditional balls.

I have taken bets where I could have one club and a putter. NW21 will laugh here but I chose a 7 iron.

My short game improved tremendessly when I quit using my 60 and 56 degree wedges around the greens for simple bump and run shots.

My guess would be maybe it could help you with your distances and shot making using a variety of clubs.

I played on some pretty bad golf teams, the JV team was awful, but the varsity was legit, I was usually 7 or 8, not consistent enough to be a solid golfer.  I would have nice runs but I'd make a couple double bogeys and cancel those out.  I was in it for the free golf as well, they were some good times.

glad to here your gettin closer ps. good sh*t.

i think i may have said it to ya before, maybe try taking the one iron challenge. take the one you like the best and hit just that iron for one full rd and youll break 100. probably easy.  the tin cup trusty 7 iron and a putter shud be all it takes for ya..

it may sound dumb, or a waste of time or money on a rd of golf, but its summer now, go at sundown rates and squeeze in 18. or maybe just do nine and see what i mean. youll probably be shocked at your score...and itll have you adapt using just one club for different shots thatll get you understanding feel more for each club in the bag...feel is key...

and if youre decent around 100 yrds in, then try maybe hittin a short iron and a short chip and hope for one putt but be usually happy with two putt bogey on a far four. hit a good drive off the tee on a par five, hit a short iron to get you to your best comfortable short yardage club. shud be about 100yrds or so. and always chip bump and run for now.

all this isnt aggressive golf. i know. but aggressive golf will come after you keep building your game up. you shudnt be thinking anything but a bogey as your score on each tee box for now. after you progress, youll be at thinkin k if i can just make par. then your golf nuts will drop and itll be alrighty wheres my birdie on this hole...golf is always strategy. and strategy equals waaay less strokes. even if ya not so great at putting, you still will break a 100 easy ps with this friendly bs advice.

    gl...

    golf is good...keep hackin away...

all this isnt aggressive golf. i know. but aggressive golf will come after you keep building your game up. you shudnt be thinking anything but a bogey as your score on each tee box for now. after you progress, youll be at thinkin k if i can just make par. then your golf nuts will drop and itll be alrighty wheres my birdie on this hole...golf is always strategy. and strategy equals waaay less strokes. even if ya not so great at putting, you still will break a 100 easy ps with this friendly bs advice.

My guess would be maybe it could help you with your distances and shot making using a variety of clubs.

If you are trying to cure a slice that is sound advice...the natutral shot is a draw....teaching one to roll there wrists over is a cure that they can build on....it's called baby steps and that routine has helped many...I'm not analyzing the guys swing, only responding to those that have the dreaded slice....it's mainly caused by the lazy wrist....focusing on that will correct that...the beach ball is an awesome exercise to building strenght in the wrist and allows you to see how ope your clubface is at impact by where the ball goes...
