Have never been on Carnival. Have been on Norwegian and RC, and RC was much better...

Well if you liked RC over Norwegian then stick with RC over Carnival because I thought Norwegian was better than Carnival personally. I liked the dinning set up on Norwegian much better than Carnival. I liked the different theme restaurants they offered on Norwegian versus the assigned seat / time dinning style of Carnival. I have heard that Holland and Princess are pretty comparable to RC so maybe check them out if you like their itineraries.
Carnival is just a bit cheaper and the crowd is a bit younger. These days though, I hear, they're all pretty much the same compared to 5-10 years ago when RC and Holland would target the older more mature crowd, Norwegian and Princess were sort of right in the middle and Carnival was targeting young 20-30 somethings and of course Disney targeted families. But now I think they're all taking what they can get - just trying to get people onboard and then try to get them to open up their wallets once on board.
Every cruise we learn something new about making the next cruise experience a little better. For instance, we are staying 1 extra day in Orlando this time versus rushing off of the boat, herding into a shuttle and going straight to the airport to do the airport shuffle through check-in, security and all that shit. We're going to chill out on the boat until almost everyone's off and then we'll walk off the boat at our leisure and head to our hotel.
That one extra day will greatly improve our vacation experience. I've always hated that last day of the cruise just knowing what we had to look forward to the next day. The flight to Alaska is fucking LOOONGG and I never look forward to it. Now I'll be able to relax knowing we have another day of vacation to look forward to in Orlando.
