What--- how dare they, the boss actually wants me to do work at work, not just fuck around on my computer all day who does he think he is??????????
Just so you know I am an x ray tech at a hospital in Chicago. Either it is very busy or very slow. Lots of down time. I assure you I am one of the most if not the most productive worker in my department. It sucks when there is nothing going on and I want to see some scores. I don't use the net for placing bets. I work a lot of overtime and when its dead it gets real boring. Good to see some scores now and then.

The thing of it is, Websense and your employer only block certain sites, so the whole concept is hypocritical. So, Suzy in accounting that's into basketweaving, can surf basketweaving websites all freakin' day long. Or co-worker Jim is into cycling, so he can look at bicycles and bicycling stuff all day long if he chooses to. Also, people can still Ebay, do their own website stuff if they have one, day trade, etc, etc...the list goes on and on. But, I can't grab a quick glance at covers.com to see relief pitchers stats from the night before.
It's hard to relate to if you don't have a computer related job. For the millions of people that do, the fact is the internet is just part of it. If a company is worried about an employee's production, or lack there of, then that company has needs to readjust it's hiring practices or deal with the lack of production on a case by case basis. I think if a company is that worried about internet use, then cut it off completely and make it fair for all employees instead of filtering certian sites.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I work at very busy engineering consulting firm. If I were fucking around surfing the internet all day, I'd be fired. Think about it as someone that has TVs at their work. You can't just sit down on your ass and kick back and watch TV, but you can at least catch a quick glance at a baseball score every now and then. It's the same concept.
Thanks for the proxy suggestions guys, but I'm well aware of them. Most don't work, or get caught by websense, or are just fucked up with the lack of Java and cookies. I'm just going to have to some more research and try to find new company like Secure-Tunnel. I'll look into it this weekend sometime.

same thing happened to me awhile back....very frustrating.
I got a satellite wireless card for my laptop through verizon for like $50 a month....it allowed me to get rid of my house phone and my old internet provider....verizon also gives %15 to alot of places people work....so after its all said and done, it only costs a little more and you can get the internet anywhere......best move I've made in awhile.
lavadude, you must be a pain in the ass to work with.

I like the card had it before but look at it as a more of a convince than productive.
