My dear father just had a stroke 4 days ago

Question

Im in so much pain seeing my father like this.  All I could do is cry and hope for the best.  Its been four days and he has open his eyes.....progress is so slow......he can swallow a little bit but the doctors wanna put a feeding tube in him.......I feel so sad.....its so hard to see my dad in this situation......lets hope he gets well soon......anyone know much about stroke?  Im so worried about his recovery.....how he much he is going to change......so hard for me to accept the worst....

I know stroke victims who couldn&#x27;t move their thumb even a millimeter after having a stroke and recovered completely.I&#x27;ve seen others who were quite responsive hours after having the stroke only to be ultimately paralyzed on the side their face that was effected, with long-term care necessary for their well-being.All the best...You still have him here. Tell him what you wanted to tell him all your life when he comes to.

for some odd reason the last 3-6 months ive known many ppl in danger or have passed away than the last 5 years combined. odd.

hope ur dad gets well soon. what area are you from and how old is he? what does he do as a profession?

There are so many ways this can go, I hope it goes they way you want it.

If you can, try and live your life. I'm sure your Father would want that. Of course you have to visit him, but sitting there for hours on end will do neither of you any good. Visit, talk to him, even though you don't think he can hear you..................and leave.

I know this sounds cruel, but he'll respond right away...........or not. I sat and watched my Mother die from cancer for months. Being unemployed, I could do that. I got no wife, kids, no job, and watched her go away...................for months.

Employed now full time, girlfriend, things are good. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about her, but she'll always be a part of my life, living or dead, and you have many things to consider for your/his future. I can only wish you the best, my fellow Covers brother.....

for your father--don&#x27;t know anything about stokes----but maybe it would help to imagine he passed away instead of the stroke---it will help you think about everything you wished you would have said if he just had a little more time with you----then----you can do that since he does..the biggest regret I have in my life is thinking i&#x27;d have next week, or next month to catch up with that really good friend of mine----and now i&#x27;m only left with what I wish I would have done before he passed----don&#x27;t make that mistake---not with your father.

Your father is lucky to be alive.  Not everyone survives a stroke or brain attack caused by interruption of blood flow.  Drug treatment depends on type of stroke.  Blood thinners for clot or anti-hypertensives for high blood pressure.  Depending on extent of damage, stroke survivors may need physiotherapy to recover.  Most do improve over time.

[/Quote]Even if he fully recovers he will most likely be a changed man - my dad fully recovered but it changed him, he was never depressed before but has periods of dealing with that now.
