Math Question about MegaMillions - Any Math Geniuses want to try???

You need five regular numbers plus the mega ball to win the jackpot.

If I have 27 regular numbers and 9 mega ball numbers selected to play, how many tickets would I have to buy to cover all the possible combinations of these numbers?



Is 23! x 9 close to the correct answer?

if you did all those combos, your odds would now be 1in 242

BTW 23! means 23 factorial.

Listen, I already FORGOT half of what most of the idiots on Covers will EVER know...  I think.

So what you are saying is that because there is only a five number combination, it's not the full factorial multiplication?

Haha I'm not sure if you are insulting me or not.

But if there are 27 possible numbers and you have 5 of them, I think I did it right.

I havent been in math class in years and it was never my forte. Thank god my job requires no math but I think I did it right, but who knows.

There are 56 balls for 1 thru 5, then 46 balls for the 6th number, right?  Thats what the website says at least.  

So it would be  1 in 56 * 55 * 54 * 53 * 52 * 46.

You were on the right track, but 23! is waaaay to fucking big

It's (27!/(22!*5)*9

 boxing 27 numbers with 9 mega numbers, the combs come out to 726,570.
considering boxing every number in the game comes out to 175.711.536  thats right off the lottery page.
