I've already told you phones are free with a plan. So the $500 you speak of is fictional.
Since phones are now handheld computers, at $60/$70 a month, they are not only a bargain, but a very wise alternative to having a landline with a monthly bill and much worse pricing plans and/or PC which could be $1,000+ base along with the wifi service you have to purchase to have functioning internet.
This individual now can receive a phone call about a job prospect or an email their resume right from their hand and you condemn them because YOU can't afford one for your daughter.
Well guess what? No one gives a fuck!
Disregarding the fact she is 14, I think all unemployed should have a phone with functioning internet. And if they use any government assistance for that purchase? B R A V FUCKING OOOOO! Maybe she has forgone meals to pay the bill. That is a very real occurrence for someone who lives in poverty.
The person may have an EBT card, BUT MAY STILL BE EMPLOYED and having a handheld computer to communicate with employers who have better jobs and more pay is not only prudent, its wise and rational. How the HELL are they supposed to get out of poverty after all?
On top of that, this is allegedly a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD girl. Shouldn't a 14-year old girl have a phone to call the police in case she was assaulted? An assault that is a very real occurrence to any parent who has a daughter LIKE YOURSELF????? Doesn't your daughter, assuming she is of the same age, have a phone for that very reason, that is, when she is out of your site, she can report back her whereabouts and her safety!

This is the constant fucking stigmatizing of the 'welfare state' by teh 'upper classes' who work hard (I know plenty of people who are gainfully employed and make a great salary and wouldn't know a hard day's work if it was shoved straight up their ass); the 'welfare state' which you think you pay for and in reality after your meager contribution to the tax base, it is a mere eyedrop drop in an OCEAN of tax dollars (yet you think you have the right to tell each and every person on welfare whether or not their phone is above YOUR standard for themselves).
