You want to go to church. That's fine. But, you not going from zero to Priest. Moderation.
You want to quit gambling? No. You want to quit losing. Money management. Moderation.
You don't want to get drunk/hungover? Crazy idea I know, but drink less. Moderation.
You want to hit the gym? Great. But you don't go from zero to Arnold in 3 weeks. You guessed it. Moderation. You gotta walk before you can run.
Women. How does moderation help getting women? Well, if you're spending less time gambling, drinking, and more at the gym, believe me, someone out there is going to notice this. Trust me.

Agree with hawks post like Mr Miagee said balance is most important. Read the bible, help someone less fortunate, and above all relax and enjoy life even if life can be damn hard sometimes! Good luck and God Bless!

COVERS is NOT the problem. I've literally been gambling dollars once every few days on the little things that I know fit my M.O. (my best plays - when I actually gamble I hunt for plays and end up betting half the board because I 'HAVE TO') and I'm on covers all the time. I used to drink a ton (while posting on covers at that time) and now I very rarely have more than 2 beers (wedding tomorrow is one of those special occasions though) and still post on covers. Just stick to the GD... when you go back to the forums when you have been disconnected from the games it will actually be humourus all the bad angles you see.
Onto the god thing... just my opinion of course but...
GOD is not PUNISHING you for being bad. You live like shit, and you reap what you sew. I know in your mind you have good intentions, you're probably even a pretty good guy, but that doesn't mean that GOD is going to make your life good when you don't put in any work trying to improve yourself and get wasted all the time and jerk off all day to ragingstorm's thread.
This god, the guy with this arms raised in the air and a halo over his head who watches down on you from the clouds, is seriously on the level of the tooth fairy IMO. If you are going to be religious put a little thought into it - I don't have any idea what people would label me, religiously, I wouldn't want to name it anything anyway, if its even anything other than plain atheism (I don't know, don't care what it would be labeled like I said) but I do think there is something greater keeping things in line on some level - whether that is karma (whether that means a running tally of what will get you back in the end, or simply that your decisions and other inputs create your material ends that you are looking for), the sun and the solar system around us (which we have discovered, which rules that out for most people), or the most likely -- something that is just way over our heads.
Its just my opinion, but why bother with the rules, punishments, sinning, and 'Gods plan'? Legwand, you and I both know that when it comes down to it you can always just make compromises or justify your actions in your own mind to get around the rules, after all, Jesus will wipe the slate clean if you think he should, right? The way of living that makes sense to me is simple - treat people how you want to be treated, have a little more respect for yourself and try hard as it may be to do the same for the people around you, and don't be fucking stupid. Here's a good way to decide if an action that you are thinking might be morally wrong: if it were a rule that EVERYONE in the world made the same decision in your position would there be problems and chaos or not? I can't remember if that was from Kant or John Stuart Mill or some other philosopher whose name I will never remember even though it is actually a way that I live my life, but if you think about it you'll see that its actually pretty genius. The only flaw IMO is the same as any moral philosophy - compromises. Let's say your thinking about driving home drunk... if everyone did the same thing every time they got drunk it would be chaos. BUT you start saying "well... I'm only 5 miles from home and I'm probably only a few drinks over the legal max, if people could drive home drunk within 5 miles it wouldn't be so bad."
The moral of the story (no pun intended) is that ultimately YOU determine everything at this point. YOU decide what is right and wrong and YOU will create your immediate future so YOU need to make a decision about who you want to be. As as it is, the rest of your life starts today, I hope its a good day for you Legwand

That is what makes life so beautiful and crappy at the same time. If we never experience disappointment or heartache, we would not appreciate the beautiful things that life has to offer. Leg, to follow up on the Hawk's wonderful advice, going from one extreme to the other is self-destructive and futile. You will end up on a major binge/relapse by denying yourself some of life's pleasures.
As far as feeling sorry for yourself, we all do at one time or another. But the best way to break out of your funk is to take a little time off gambling and start working out in the gym to get the endorphins pumping and some self-confidence back. A healthy body is a healthy mind. That is why I only have myself to blame for eschewing the gym for too long.
Good luck with whatever you decide, but do whatever makes you happy. And being drunk brings out some bad emotions in all of us when we are alone in bed. Just realize that you are more normal than you think. Just pull back the reins a little and quit the self-pity.

Thanks everyone for all your posts. I have read through them all and appreciate a lot of the good advice. I have decided instead of feeling bad for myself and instead of worrying about not finding a girl I like right now and also insted of going crazy and becoming a priest. I have decided to focus on something else. I have already been going to the gym so I am good with that but something that really bothers me is that I still smoke. So this weekend I decided to make that my primary focus. I figure maybe karma will throw me a reward if I do something to earn it and quitting smoking would definitely be a step in the right direction. Like that one quote said instead of looking for the right girl try to be the right guy and i would like to date a girl that wants to date a guy that doesnt smoke so I have decided to start there. Trying not to smoke will also take my mind off of not having a girl right now cause quitting smoking will be difficult enough so not having a girlfriend will be the least of my problems for a while. Plus I think after a while of not smoking I will start feeling better. I was thinking what if I am at a bar and a girl is checking me out then I light up a cigarette and that ruins it for her. I know my past girlfriends have always hated me smoking so I think its a good start.

I kind of had an epiphany over the weekend. I am whining about not having a girlfriend as if my life is perfect in every other way and that is the missing piece when there are problems of my own that I can fix on my own. So that is why I am making my first goal to stop smoking. That is something I can really focus on then everyday instead of being all down that I dont have a girlfriend I can be happy that it was a day that I didnt smoke and I bet that life will reward me for it because I truly believe in karma and if I start doing the right things for myself then life will give me what I want. Smoking is my first step then once I accomplish that I will work on something else that I can do to improve myself.

I still am giving up porn too. I would say I could do it in moderation but even if I did it once a week what if that one day I did it was the day I was supposed to meet the girl of my dreams but I didnt go out cause I jerked off and took a nap instead? I do believe that it does lower your drive to go out and meet women if you sit and watch porn all the time so I am stopping that too.

Lowers your drive? Shit. Try watching it with the mental context of game film
About 5 minutes before you leave, turn it on, watch it (standing up of course) and get fired up with the mindset of "this is what I'm going to do to you tonight bitch." Then go close the deal...

I tried that before. I cant watch it without rubbing one out. Then if I do that going out doesnt seem like as great an idea afterwards. I think I will just stick with my original plan. Now if I watch it with a girl with me then thats a whole nother story.

It does lower your drive, someone said something abut the 'aggression' in your eyes, and it actually is true. This will sound strange, but think about how you look at a girl when you meet her. Lock on to her eyes... you don't want to look disinterested and have these very soft eyes, look focused and determined. I've never been good at approaching women, but I have definitely done enough to know that women want one thing - confidence. Everything else doesn't matter. I've never talked much 'game' to women but at work I stand out because I am dressed better than everyone else and I just talk to girls all night, they love a man who is dressed up - plus it will give YOU confidence in yourself.
Quitting smoking can absolutely help your confidence too. It definitely sucks quitting, but you do feel better immediately just knowing that you are really trying to make a change. After a few days you will actually physically start feeling better already, I swear by it, i hate smoking... but at some point I always go back for a brief period E-Cigarettes are great too, you could try that.
The other good thing about quitting is that you have to keep yourself busy, because as you know, cigarettes are usually used as a way to kill 5 minutes while you're bored. Find other things to do, if you already go to the gym and don't have a terrible physique you should be out there slaying strange box in no time sir .
Last bit of advice from me : try the over-dressing thing. Maybe just go to a decent bar in a nice shirt and tie like you just left work, you can even use that story if you want - it sounds crazy but if you are the best dressed in the room women WILL FIND YOU. That's what they like. Plus it might give you some more confidence too. Be fun and play little games with them, say things that you wouldn't normally say, make a bet with them on something on tv - you can use your handicapping skills to take advantage of their lack of sports knowledge - you decide what you should win for the bet, decide what you deserve... and since you are the best looking guy in the bar and the exact type of good guy that this girl should be looking for, make sure you don't sell yourself short with your prize.

And don't feel bad for yourself for being in this funk!! We all have our highs and lows, and the way we handle those highs and lows really has a lot to do with who we end up becoming. When you're low you just have to realize how much potential there is for improvement - you could be in any position you want in 2 weeks Legwand, make it happen! It starts today.

And I am quitting gambling though. I just put my entire account on that girl from American Idol to win. If she wins I am withdrawing and if she loses then my account will be zero.
How'd that work out for you ?
Something must be telling you to move on, because you couldn't get that right either. It's a shame you put your reputation on a last shot at "redemption", so to speak.
