Again, this thread is NOT about the causes of action wether they are right or wrong, or the circumstances behind a particular action. This has nothing to do with my thread.
The purpose of this thread is to simply highlight the double standards, in 2 particular cases, innocent children were killed, in one of the cases (Afghan, Iraq were far far greater than at CT yesterday).
Yet in one case we see grieving for innocent children that died (as it should be) and in another case where innocent children died, we dont see anyone give a rats.
People, dont try and make this thread something its not, this has nothing to do with whether war is right or wrong or the actions of the gunmen yesterday...Nothing at all. The purpose is to highlight the double standards in grieving where in both cases, innocent children were killed.
Thats all

I think your heart is in the right place, but this statement can be applied to a wide range. You even want to make it closer to home inner city kids across the globe die on a daily basis which the masses don't care about either. On a daily basis in Africa innocent children die. Why focus on a country that is in the middle of a war zone? Is that not a double standard in itself? I understand the feeling should in a perfect world be the same, but it's not and never will be. People focus on their own lives for the most part and this could have happened to anyone of us which is why there is widespread grief. I'm pretty confident I'm not going to die of malaria or of a bomb hitting my house anytime in the near future. So it's kind of hard to relate to those children.

(a) Children that were killed in CT were innocent children that were affected by the action(s) of a person.
(b) Children that were killed in afghan, Iraq were innocent children that were affected by the action(s) of a person (world leaders).
In situation (a), the forum grieves, the community grieves and the world grieves AS WE SHOULD
In situation (b), no one gave a rats, no one cared, no one gave half a second thought to these innocent children.
Double standards......
You are all wrong here buddy. I truly believe you have good intentions but there is no way these are comparable. Not one soldier has a single thought of murdering young people. That in itself makes it very different. This guy sought out to murder young children. I am deeply saddened by the fact that some kids are killed at war?
Another way to look at this is why do you weep when you have a family member pass but not when one of mine does? Because it hits closer to home. Its just a fact.

In these cases, you cant justify the means to the end....
Flying overhead and dropping bombs in populated areas is going to cause deaths to innocent civilians.
But this is not what i am arguing. I am not even talking about causes.....Rather, i am strictly looking at the reactive emotions of people.
Their should be no double standard when innocent children are killed..........

Thats exactly it....how many innocent children die in 3rd world countries? How many innocent children died in the afghan / iraq wars etc.
No one gives a rats about the people above, but at soon as what happened in CT, the reaction is completely different.
Geographical location, the causes of the deaths, should not matter when innocent children die. Yet, we see a huge disparity.
This is my argument. Its kind of sick.

It's war. Innocent people get killed, and it is terrible. Then there are people that murder. There is the soldier in Afghanistan that killed 17, I believe... He entered a building and just started shooting women, children, everyone. Murder. And he is charged with murder. There was also some soldiers that were murdering people there that will face charges as well. People are outraged for these acts.
This fuked up individual in Conn. walked into a school where our kids are told is a safe place to be when they aren't under our protection, and stared at there terrified faces and shot them over and over.
All of it is sad. But there is a huge difference

arguably, what we do when we go into iraq and kill many innocent children is worse than what happened yesterday. assuming this guy was mentally ill, the laws in this country and our criminal justice system mitigates to some degree a person's actions that are the result of mental illness, and most people understand that.
when we bomb iraq and other places for no legitimate reason, we know kids and other innocent people will be massacred and we can't blame it on mental illness. on the contrary, we do it because our politicians are pawns for huge defense firms that need to sell their arms and make millions. and oil companies who need to get the oil and make billions. and pliticians need to stay in power so they can be set for life without having to actually work.
so, on the one hand, you have a brutal massacre of kids that is caused by mental illness which most people don't understand.
on the other hand, you have many more children and others getting massacred due to political power, controlling the minds of the masses and the profit motive for the big companies.
Trying to kill terrorist is legit, dont you think.Completly agree with last paragraph.

You did not answer my question tho. Why does it hurt you when your family member dies and not when one of mine does? This is the same thing as your scenario.

trying to kill terrorists is legit, but we went so far beyond that a long time ago. our foeign policy is little about trying to kill terrorists and a lot about politicians, special interests and money. so when people in this thread chalk the many, many more innocent children who have diued through our rdiculous forein policy as simply casualties of war, i think they miss the point.
if you want to compare which murders/deaths are "worse" you have to look at the different motives. and, as this thread initially points out, i think there is a good argument, that 20 or so children's deaths resulting from a kid's mental health disease is not quite as bad as thousands of deaths resulting from our politician's desire to pay back the special interests who have bought them, even if those deaths were of darker skinned kids in far away places that our media don't give a garbage about.
