During the 1st Nixon Administration (68-72) Henry Kissinger was a Wunder-kind in dealing with China,Soviet Union,and the Middle East but Nixon would never appear with Him or allow him to be interviewed on TV. The Reason was that Peter Seller's character was a spitting imitation of the Germaan Kissinger(Dr. Strangelove character) and Kubrick's Movie made such an impression with the Doves(Viet-Nam) that Nixon didn't want to invite comparisons.
Some consider Dr Strangelove to be Stanley Kubricks greatest Film but in his later years His worldview was reflected in his Last Film-- Eyes Wide Shut.

But, sticking with the topic - - "Greatest Acting Performance" - for my money, the recently deceased R. Lee Ermey
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman - - originally, he was just a consultant on the movie, Kubrick liked him and the rest is history.....
