I am a proud supporter of the NRA  by the way and if you want to keep your right to guns you should seriously consider becoming a member. They do a lot to protect that right.

Could not agree more with you, tree. I grew up hunting and fishing. I got my first shotgun when I was 10, and my first rifle when I was 12. I was taught to respect the firearm, and how to safely handle them. I shot sporting clays, as well hunted deer and turkey. I wasn't using the guns for protection, and can't fathom not being able to teach my kids the same skills. It was a way of life forum grandfather and my father. Taking away guns will absolutely only leave the law abiding citizens helpless to the criminals who will not turn theirs in.

    Guns are stupid.
People who use them are also stupid, yes, stupid.
There are thousands of studies to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, more guns, more death. The idea of arming everyone has already been tried in the 1880's and predictably, there were a lot of gunfights.
The idea of having a gun in the house is ludicrous. People are more likely to shoot themselves and or each other than any intruder. The idea of a gun providing safety AS IN THIS CASE, is totally and completely untrue. Guns are dangerous, that is all there is to it.
Now you would think I am against guns, right?
     Nope, no sir..........

You see, we have a constitution that protects the imbeciles who want to own guns. The constitution is unique and the ultimate answer. If you want to own a gun, go ahead, but do it with your eyes open, that it puts you and your family in danger.

Ccould you cite a single one of the "thousands" of studies please?

I'm not a "gun nut", but I am at least aware of the data.  And the data strognly suggests otherwise.  Chicago is the perfect example of a city with strict gun laws -- probably the most strict in the country -- and yet gun violence has gone up as the laws have gotten more strict.   Legislating guns doesn't work, people.

The sad fact is that Belcher could/would have stabbed/bludgeoned/run over with his car this woman, and then done something else to kill himself (OD, crash car, you name it).   Suicidal/Homicidal ideation doesn't require guns to exist, or to execute.

People like Costas, who see something like that happen and say "guns are the reason this happened; we need to get rid of guns" are naive and stupid -- yes, stupid -- and can't see past the most superficial, kneejerk layers of a very complex problem.

I live in Canada, hard to get a gun, feel a lot safer here than a country where everybody can get a gun and use it for any purpose...killing somebody with a gun is the easiest way, it may have been hard for Javon to kill his girlfriend and himself by any other way than getting in his bedroom, take that gun and shoot some bullets towards her...

USA has to change that gun culture....so easy to murder, we just cant control each others mind and those situations will keep happening

    This.

Why I think you're generalizing "Americans" a bit, many republican types will never understand.  Only people that should have deadly weapons like that are people who are trained to use them (Ie. police officers).  How is Tom person and Harry running around with a gun safe?  I could never live in a place like that.

For the people who are for gun control laws I will concede that the United States has the highest rate of murders with firearms.

Now ask yourself, is it that simple because gun ownership is a right in the U.S.?

People have pointed out that some of the highest firearm killings are in cities that have strict gun laws.

Is there a chance it is the people that commit the murders and not the guns itself? Could it be the culture in the U.S.?

I've noticed when people throw out that statistic it is always mentioned the U.S. has the highest among developed nations? Are there undeveloped nations that have higher rates than the U.S.?

Costas removed an important part of Whitlock's statement to make it politically charged. Here's what Whitlock did write.

"In the coming days, Belcher’s actions will be analyzed through the lens of concussions and head injuries. Who knows? Maybe brain damage triggered his violent overreaction to a fight with his girlfriend. What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."

    Bob Costas is an idiot!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but constantly referring to gun owners as idiots and imbeciles is pretty disrespectful.
My family has plenty of hunters (and some damned good competition shooters) and there have been ZERO accidents with firearms.

I'm curious if Costas did it or if was one of the producers..

Remember. producers at NBC altered the 911 call of the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin shooting.

If i want to be lectured about gun control I don't want it coming from that little twit. I watch sunday night football to watch football, not hear that dumbasses opinion on gun control. I actually looked for a place to complain to NBC to keep politics and crap like this out of the game. Never done that before.
