 A lot of companies post jobs as part of a procedure................most get filled from within.

dont bother applying online for jobs, youre competing with way too many people, the way to find a job nowadays is to network and network some more

I'm on LinkedIn...use Facebook quite a bit...networking as much as I can. I know I'm doing most everything I can and staying positive, just wanted to vent a bit

Also, use your One Stop center if you have one nearby.  Not sure how they are in your area, but the one I used was pretty good.  They had some really useful seminars, tried to find different ways to provide assistance and also would give job leads.

Oh...and at the job before I was in charge of the interviewing, recruiting, prospecting and all that...so I know ALL of the bullshit that goes on behind the scenes.

stay postive ..often cooleges have alumni business networking groups that meet monthly .. mine does .. you might check yours if its local..

Got laid off in '08.  Was fun at first (drunk every day ), then a new level of stress hit me like I had never felt.  I then got a good job, was making more than I ever had, and I hated my job.  Hated it.  Had to leave.  HAD TO. 

Now I'm self employed and loving it.  I've never been better.  I love the situation I'm in, and never thought life could be this cool.  The income is there too.  I feel like I'm the luckiest man alive right now.  Aside from the Brad Pitts and George Clooneys of course.  But I'd be willing to bet that I'm happier with my job situation than 99% of the people in this world.

Keep your head up.  In the meantime, get the book Rich Dad Poor Dad and read it.  It's the best book I've ever read.  Changed my life.

Volunteer from time to time. Looks good on the resume.

If you dont mind getting up at 3am and putting in 10-12 hour days you could try being a breadman, if nothing else it will pay the bills until u find something up your alley. Ive done it for 17 years and make good money. Dont go with Wonder Bread though, they have been in and out of bankruptcy for 10 years and looks like they may finally go under

I walk by the unemployment line on the way to work every day.  Whenever I catch their eyes just for fun I say “get a job.”

It wasn’t really suppose to be, but what I do find funny is how you talk about how you evaluate yourself as a man yet you let the rest of your family talk shit to you while you work and they don’t because they are too lazy. 

First you said your family “still could help themselves. However, they don't.” 

Now you are saying “it's based on their inability to support themselves.”

In either case, you don’t sound like much of a man if you let your family talk shit to you while you are working and supporting them while they sit on their ass.

i heard on the news today that Siemens is doing tons of hiring.

make sure that you've sent an email to EVERY single person you know, and don't bs, just beg for them to help you, even if it was that annoying guy in h.s. that you couldn't stand, they might be able to help. make sure to contact everyone that your parents know, and everyone that your friends know.

A very low percentage of jobs are ever posted online. most are filled without being ever posted. so you need to talk to people on the inside, and have them find openings for you that aren't posted.

use LinkedIn like crazy. send messages to tons of random people there. even if 95% of the people ignore you, those other 5% could be helpful.

contact every single temp/staffing/placement agency in the area. talk to them on the phone, and set up in person meetings. make a list of a contact that you've met at every agency in your area. call them once a week to see if they've found you anything. (and be their friend, learn about their personal life, share your personal life ... they're much more likely to work hard to get 'real people' place instead of just resumes).

i recently finished a master's in economics in December. i've been working temp/contract jobs all year (one "real job" fell through cuz they company didn't have money to bring me on, a month after they had hired me). many of these temp jobs pay $15-$20/hr, which, if you're single, should be enough to survive on (remember that the national hourly wage is $18 an hour).

do those things, and you hopefully should be able to get consistent temp jobs to at least give you money to live on until you get something permanent.
