Fuck, I got a 6 and 7 year old niece and to think of someone gunning them down w/ a fucking "ASSAULT WEAPON" is beyond absurd!!! I always said if you hurt my girls I'd kill you, but how can I even protect them? How ez is it to ban assault rifles and 100 round clips??? Seriously, explain y it shouldn't occur 

You want to know how to protect someone from a psycho with a gun?  Well a start would be getting your own gun and the training it takes to know how to operate it properly.  Oh no, that’s right.  Guns are the problem.  It’s better to be defenseless and have to depend on the police and their 5+ minute response time to protect you and your family.

I haven’t heard of a single case in the past 10 years of a legally owned assault rifle being used to commit a violent crime in America and yet you want to ban them.  Why?  So you can FEEL safe?

 

Yes, the idea of using a gun and proper training to protect yourself from an active shooter is clearly insane.  It’s much better to call the police and then cower in fear while you wait for them to show up and attempt to rescue you and your family because you couldn’t do it yourself.

Maybe you, your family, and the shooter can play a board game while you wait for men with guns to come save you.

When there are no answers we feel frustrated and helpless.  the issues divide us like guns or no guns, divorce, parenting skills, mental health issues, God or no God, etc.  We always demand answers yet we have none.  Tragedies have visited us before, they will again, whether man made or nature made, whether you choose to believe in a God or not.  Let us hope these little ones are with the angels as well as the adults who led them.  Let us hope they are in a better place or at least a better place than we offered them here.  Let us hope their souls can rest in peace, I do not feel like I can.

Ps. Dude wasn't a criminal, at least not until last Friday. His mother owned the guns, and she was a law abiding citizen. If guns weren't present what would have happened?

The problem is that the guns law abiding citizens own are falling into the wrong hands.  Don't allow anyone outside of law enforcement own a gun and death by gun will reduce.  It actually is that simple and proven over and over again in other civilized countries.

All these shootings were in “gun free zones.” Law-abiding citizens aren’t allowed to carry guns in them.

Criminals, on the other hand, don’t seem to mind for some reason.  It’s almost as if criminals don’t obey the law.  Strange.

How exactly do you propose the US “doesn’t allow anyone outside of law enforcement to own a gun” with a population of over 315,000,000 as well as over 300,000,000 guns?

 

Your logic:

Criminals have guns and law-abiding are defenseless = safe

Criminals have guns and law-abiding citizens can defend themselves = unsafe

Yeah, that makes a whole hell of lot of sense.

 

I love how you people take an isolated incident and use it as a way to take away rights from the majority. 

Adam Lanza was not a criminal in a sense of police record and such.  But his mental health issues probably led up to this catastrophic event.  There may have been red flags but went unheeded much as the case of 9-11.  Persons with deep rooted personality disorders or psychotic disorders could go undetected till they act out.  Gun safety, gun control, mental health issues, parental practices, marital issues, there is enough concern to go for awhile.  It is too late for many, I hope it not too late for others but I think it will be.

None of the guns used in the Newtown shooting were assault rifles.

None of the guns used in any of these school shootings were assault rifles.

Listen egg, meet chicken...if law abiding citizens were not allowed to own assault weapons, hand guns, etc to protect themselves/family/home, or to collect, or whatever reason, then guns wouldn't be so readily available to steal by criminals, or someone with mental health issues. And again you say only the criminals would be armed, but the law hasn't changed and still we have these slaughters.

1. The bad guys have guns

2. The bad guys AND law-abiding citizens have guns

@TheBaron i don't think it would be ethically correct to send police nation-wide to forcibly seize guns ("collect" as you nicely put it) from millions of law-abiding gun owners? That's what authoritarians regimes tend to do.

Yes, these short of mass-shooting heinous and senseless, but are extremely rare and shouldn't be use as a pretext to take away a right from millions of people.
