I used to laugh whenever I saw those how to lose inches off your waist infos, now I am one of them. 9-10 months ago I was 185-190 and wear 32"...now I'm 205-208 and 34". I didn't even know I was this out of shape until I couldn't fit into a pair of 33" jeans. I've been getting back to working out with weights and aerobics 3 times a week. What should I focus on as my objective, losing weight or trimming down my waist? If you lose weight do you automatically have slimer waist or do these two factors have any correlation?

thats an interesting question. Sometimes I think that it isnt 100% correlated. Belly fat seems to be the hardest to lose, as fat tends to congregate in the mid section. Id say your best bet is to focus on some core exercises, planks etc. Running and jogging/walking in intervals helps as well

The body stores excess calories in the belly. Doing abs all day won't reduce the caloric intake..... If anything only push your gut out by building the muscles below it.
I'm seeing good results right now with doing short and frequent cardio "intervals" to keep that metabolism up AND hitting the big muscles (with heavy weights) 2-3 times a week. That and eating 5 small meals a day.
My current cardio intervals are 15 minute bicycle rides throughout the day coupled with a massive weekly psycho session with a trainer.

One pound of muscle burns 50 calories a day. Most of the calories are burned when you are sleeping and shit. Some trainers will strip you down before rebuild but I do it at the same time.

We got like 3 threads going on this same thing and I'm all criss crossed but fat doesn't turn into muscle. Trainers typically either strip down or bulk up because there is typically one predominant goal involved. Fat does not turn into muscle though. They are different cells altogether.

Great discussion, Shrimp you sound like a pretty hardcore warrior, "the no pain on gain fall on your face before you quit kind of guy." I'm not quite there yet, working on it
I'm working out 3 times a week(penalty for skipping a workout is no tv/internet for 24hrs, for you guys out there who has the same problem take it from me, its not a good feeling) I do upper body with weights for 30-40 mins(free weights and machine, two to three sets for every part and 12-15 reps) Then I ride the stationary bike for 30 mins, kind of interval training I use the hills and get about a minute break between the hard parts. By the time I'm done I've ridden over 10 miles and burned abour 250 calories(according to the read out)
Any suggestions would be welcomed

Ab exercise is great - I like the P90X Ab ripper X and do it 3 times a week for double their reps with a weighted vest and ankle weights, but if you ever want to see them - abs are made in the kitchen.

It's worse than I originally thought, I can fit into a size 34, but it's definitely uncomfortable, and after a meal all bets are off. To be perfectly honest, I'm very surprised something like this would have this much impact on how I view and feel about my body. Now I can fully understand why women get so freaked out when they gain a few pounds. I hope it's not too late, but I have yet to see any significant improvement. Will keep at it and update as needed.
sws, what exactly do you mean when you say, "abs are made in the kitchen" as in watching your diet or slapping those pillsbury cheeks?

For the serious fitness guys, eating properly is almost a full time job. Is way harder when can't cook. Hard to have lean / nutritious food around 5 times a day.
