Yellow Tail sashimi is finer than russian caviar for me.
Be great to dive and spear my own but the fish is a actually a jack and lurks at 130+ feet. I will not dive to 130 to spear one fish. Too dangerous. There must be another way.
Ceviche is also for me. I make it with a pretty mean pile that even the Peruvians here are impressed.

Tried it one time.....took a gal out one time and her "payback" was to take me out for sushi. All I can say, is thank goodness for the Guinness because it was just about the end of me. She was a hot red head with a belly button piercing which helped make it worth it.

I was always against raw fish until I had "poke" which is a hawaiian ceviche type of dish... after being able to eat like a pound of that, I pretty much got over being against raw fish...
I think the basic concept of sushi is gross in that in comes from the tradition of transporting raw fish in between beds of rice that is fermenting... that is why sushi rice has vinegar in it to mimic that traditional spoiled taste...
I prefer things with out the rice... poke > sashimi > sushi
When it comes to oysters, the best I ever had was a platter of oyster varieties from around the world at a restaurant in seattle... I thought the kumamoto variety was some of the best

Try Bluefin if you ever get the chance. The Japanese aren't to fond of letting them leave their country, but if you can get your hands on some, i guarantee its the best fish you'll ever eat.

That's awesome Hutch, was it really that BAD??
To borrow a great line from First Blood, I was forced to try to eat things that would make a billy goat puke when I rushed a fraternity in college: Live minnows, worms, cat food omelettes, etc., etc. More often than not, it went half way down and then right back up. Eating sushi just brought all that back. I had to concentrate on not breathing so I couldn't taste it as much and then wash it down with beer. But I wanted to get in this red heads pants pretty bad.
The sad part of the story is that was our second date and I thought things were going well. She had to get up early so we ended things early. I proceeded to call her a few days later....she never called me back. I waited a few days and tried again. No call back. Hint received so I moved on.
2 months later she calls me. Says she really had a good time when we went out and wanted to see me again. Asked me why I didn't call her. I tell her I took it as a hint after trying twice. She says, "oh, I have just been really, really busy." So we get to talking a bit and she tells me she had hoped I would have been a little more aggressive when I dropped her off after our last date.
So I'm in business, right? Maybe I get to do a red head with a belly button ring? WRONG. I was already dating the gal I'm currently with (9 years now). My whole life pretty much changed because she didn't call me back. And although I am grateful to be with my gal, I still think about that missed oppportunity. When I think that I might live the rest of my life without having sex with another red head, it definitely makes me .
Maybe part of the reason I don't like sushi is it makes me think of the gal I never got to sleep with.

Hutch, yes I am glad I asked...that is a pretty funny/awesome story. You never know man, the opportunity to bag another redhead might pop up again in the future and if not, fuck it. You sound like you are doing pretty well if you have been with the same gal for 9 years. Well done sir.
