Anyone ever have it?  Think I have a case right now.  It's like an aching pain just below my knee caps.  Especially feel it when walking up and down steps, and of course while running.  What can I do to rid of it?

First thing is that you need to make sure that you are wearing the right shoe for your gait. Just go to a specialty running shop and they will fit you with the right shoe. Increase your weekly mileage by about 10-15 percent and run on softer surfaces. If running downhill is painful then try running some hill workouts, use a smaller stride when going up the hill.  Strengthening your quads and stretching your calves and hamstrings will help prevent overpronation which contributes to runners knee. Avoid activities that involve knee bending until the pain goes away. Make sure to ice it after a run and when you are sitting or lying down keep it elevated by using a pillow. Anti-inflammatory medication such as advil can help but also have side effects so use discretion when using them.

Looks like a case of patellar tendon tendonitis. Usually a result of a muscular imbalance. Weak hammies, core and glutes could be the cause. DONT run thru the pain as this will further damage the tendon. Look online for proper info. My understanding is that its a real girl and takes time and patience to eradicate. GL!

I've had 3 reconstructive knee surgeries...dealt with nagging knee pain for years.  A bodybuilder suggested Shark Cartilage as a supplement.  Changed my life.  No pain whatosever.  I did research and got the brand NOW vitamin on the website luckyvitamin.com.  Very reasonably priced, and really did the job for me.

....swimming in the ocean here is free and it's an intense workout  way out to the buoy through big surf. Problem is is that I do it solo and it's dangerous as hell out there. Great Whites lurk.

Still do it though - big adrenaline rush when your swimming for your life.

Switched up my shoes, which has helped a lot. Been stretching and icing daily. Knees are getting better, but not close to running again. Going up and down stairs is still bothersome, but flat ground is virtually pain free.

I've moved the cardio to the pool, and nothing gets the heart pumping quite like swimming. I have been doing some running in the pool as well. I look like a chump out there, but it's much easier on the joints and is still productive.

I wasn't ever a daily "jogger". I was doing sprint intervals, a few times a week. I play soccer and softball. The sprint workouts provided practical, real life stamina that translated on the field. Jogging down the street always seemed like a mindless waste of time.

    Thanks again for the help.
