Me likey a dark strong ale when the weather gets colder

Just downed a couple Anchor Steam holiday brews - different recipe each year; this year's is a winner.

Deschutes from Bend, Or makes a great one too, Jubel ale. Haven't had one of those yet this year.

Anyone got any regional holiday beers they like?

I like heartier beer as well when win hits.  I had this yesterday and it was very solid.

Being that you're out in Cali you should see if Russian River has any holiday ales

or just drink Pliny the Elder

That is one serious beer.

Unfortunately Russian river beers are are strangely hard to find here in the south bay - only place I've consistently had luck finding them outside sonoma was oakland.

Here's another great strong brew, not necessarily a holiday beer but a good winter choice - Old Rasputin

Those guys also make another excellent stout, old 38, great on nitrogen tap

now I'm thirsty.....

You probably wont be able to find it out west but Great Lakes Christmas Ale is the shit. it sold out of my huge chicago liquor store in one hour the day it was released.

also like new  belgiums two below

Now we are talking.  For me it is always a nice strong IPA.  Winter, spring, summer, of fall.  Anything from Stone, Dog Fish, Sierra, and Victory usually does it for me.

I have always thought that this is the most over rated beer out there (along with Corona).  When you look at a glass it looks like it is going to knock your socks off with flavor and then it just tastes supremely watered down when you drink it.  So disappointing.  I have tried draft, bottled, and caned and have not like any of them.

I have not had it in Ireland or anywhere else in Europe however so I will def try it there if given the chance.

Also if you if you like Guiness give Stone's "Smoked Porter" or Dog Fish Head's "India Brown Ale" a try.
