ellipticals are easier on the knees but they can get expensive. spinning bikes are cheaper and easier to maintain as they don't require any computer system.
go into a fitness store and try them out first hand. it takes some time to get use to ellipticals. Don't cheap out and make sure it has a decent guarantee (15 years frame, 5 year parts, 1 year labour min)
Don't spend more than $900 on a spinner, $2000 on an ellipitcal (unless you are going precor, the inventors of ellipitcals).
an upright bike might be even something you would consider. Bremshey and Diamondback make decent ones for under $750

Thinking about getting A " Spinning" bike for my house and lose the last 15 lbs ... anyone have one? if so, is it a good buy or a waste of space??
The idea is to get something (anything) that you can use to burn some calories right? With that in mind...
- Nothing is a waste of space as long as you use it. - However, even the most expensive fancy piece of equipment is a waste of space if you just let it sit there and hang clothes on it.
So the best advice is to get whatever piece of equipment you think that you will use the most. .
