Swam for 8 years and was a search and rescue swimmer in the navy. Great full body workout, really works your lats and tris. Important to get your technique and breathing right, much easier to get into a nice rhythm that way.

I dont know how, I found a place that have adult classes, 5 person max for each class, meets twice a week for a month, cost is around $100. So would 8 classes be enough to get me to swim? I've tried some stuff learned from the internet but I just cant stay afloat.

8 Classes should be enough to teach you decent techniques, but you'll have to practice a lot in between classes to get your muscle memory down. Most people's problem when they say they can't stay afloat is their hips, your probably dropping them down and dragging them through the water, kicking is just as important as a proper stroke. It takes practice to get everything to work together.
