Is anyone else shocked that Russia took out Spain this morning in the WC? I know they had home country and a decent squad, but this completely shocked me.
Now Croatia is in extra time with Denmark which also surprises me a great deal. A Denmark goal in the 1st minute and good defending has them in a spot for another upset. This WC just continues to be wacky almost beyond belief.

Spain was out coached today, the Russian team using the only plan that had a shot - get to penalties - it worked.
Penalties for the most part when dealing with most top teams is a crapshoot - most major teams hitting 70%-75% - but a lot is luck and guessing. But it's better to decide the match that way then by drawing straws.
Spain thought it would be a good idea to sit back after being up 1-0, (hell they sat back all game even when it was tied 1-1) instead of trying to attack and go up 2-0 or 2-1). Spain has a great defense but Russia at home was able to net a couple in the group stage.
