I'm in a 16 team, standard scoring, no flex position league. This year I have the 16th pick. Also, I traded my 3rd round pick (48 overall) and my 8th round pick (113 overall) for the 50th and 79th overall picks (Draft slot 15's 4th and 5th rounders).

So to sum it all up I have picks 16, 17, 49, 50, 79, 80, 81 for the first 6 rounds of the draft.

I've been struggling with out I should approach this because I don't know of any sites that offer 16 team mock drafts. If you know of any, please feel free to share. Even 14 team mocks don't truly give you a sense of how things shake out by the 4th and 5th rounds.

I'm tempted to just take the two best available RB's at 16 and 17. However I feel fairly confident that there will be a WR there who could score more fantasy points. I also expect either Luck or Rodgers to be there as well. There is usually a run on QB's in the third round. I was thinking about going WR with picks 79. 80, and 81 and hoping two of the three hit, if I go RB/RB with the first two picks.

Anyways, I'm rambling now. I'm just looking for other ideas on how to approach this. Thanks for any input.

Tough to say. Hard to predict at 16 when now way to know how the others will draft ahead of you. In my experience, having played in many different leagues, the draft is never the same across leagues even in a given year. Some leagues have players more QB focused etc... I would remain open minded at 16 depending in what shakes out ahead of you.

And respectfully I have always felt that 16 team leagues is a little bush league.

Why do you think it's bush league?

I'm just curious because this is my favorite league that I play in. Forces people to learn more players and project the future more than a 10 or 12 team league. Also see more trades too due to injuries and bye weeks forcing guys to play back ups.

It originally started as a 12 team league and, imo, it would be like any other league I play in if it still was.

They is a very competitive league.
With the no flex, standard, the old adage of RB RB is a good start, but I wouldn't get married to any strategy going forward. Don't fall in love with a player.
If you're at 16/17 and Gronk is still around. That would be a game changer for me. Who do you expect to be the RBs when that pick arrives and are you willing to pass up on the likes of Dez Bryant or AJ a Green, should they fall.
    What's about A-Rod?
No sport re shuffles like the NFL does, so last years performance doesn't matter.  I think the safer way would be RB / WR because you solidly one of the starting spots and give yourself flexibility for the other. For example if I take the RB RB and one flops, I'm weak at WR and I'm getting killed at the RB2 spot, double failure. I think you may be able to build a stable with some later spots.

    Thanks for the input Biz.

I have ran a few mocks using fantasy pros (Thanks MarkyMark!) and I always seem to end up with Shady, Jordy, Cobb, and occasionally Megatron.

I know this isn't exactly what you're saying, but I am pretty much in agreement with you of not having to adhere to any specific strategy and maybe taking best player available (again, I know that isn't exactly what you're saying).

I have thought about going Rodgers and Nelson/Cobb with 16 and 17. Gronk may very well be there at 16 because this league is pretty shy on TE and there are no true Pat fans in the league (lots of Cali team fans play in this league). DeMarco may fall to 16 but I'm not planning on him being there.

I almost think going RB/RB in this league is a terrible choice just because I'd be grabbing a tier or two down from everyone else at every position.

Just trying to figure a way to get 90 points per week in standard scoring. That is the amount that usually gets you a win in a typical week in this league.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

    Draft Results:

    16. Gronk
    17. Jordy
    49. Blount
    50. Golden Tate
    79. Bridgewater
    80. Arian Foster
    81. Jordan Matthews
    112. Isiah Crowell
    144. Knile Davis
    145. Flacco
    176. Chris Johnson
    177. Fred Jackson
    208. Cincy D
    209. Cleveland D

Not a bad draft imo. Missed Stafford by one pick and had to go Bridgewater instead. I don't mind gambling on Foster at that spot.

Some rookie in our league took Gostkowski before I took Foster. I know have a $100 side bet on who gets more points this year.

Looking back on it I don't really like the Golden Tate pick, not at that spot at least.

RB early in the season will be a big question mark. I feel like this season really might come down to Bridgewater performing well.

Any thoughts or criticism is more than welcome. Trade ideas are welcome too.

And yes I'm aware I don't have a Kicker. I usually roster all position players and maybe one D until right before the season starts. We draft so early that I think it makes sense to have more players rostered in case there is a serious injury.

Overall not bad &16 man teams are bound to have a few holes and you've identified yours at rb you can ride it out in hopes of foster making the world of difference or if you can snag a waiver wire gem but I think your hurting at the spot. See what the injury is to McCoy and maybe you get some run out of f.jackson. Your others are gonna be a roller coaster imo..

Look at the Charles owner and offer him Davis & something for a serviceable back. Or I'd see what you can get for jordy as personally the hip surgery is somewhat of a concern for me.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the input Goon.

I'm definitely open to dealing Davis to Charles owner if the price is right. I agree getting a serviceable back to buy time til Foster comes back would be huge. I think FJax will score some points regardless of Shady playing or not. Obviously the more time Shady misses, the better the production expectation will be for FJax.

I'm pretty optimistic on Jordy and Matthews. I could easily deal one of them if they come out of the gate strong. One thing people in this league love to do is pair a QB and WR so I'm sure Rodgers owner wouldn't be willing to deal.

Upgrading RB should definitely be a priority for the early part of the schedule.

Definitely sucks losing him. I guess it's better to not count on him for anything and drop him than to have him suffer a lingering injury that makes me hold a roster spot for him, and have him give inconsistent production.

I guess that solves the issue of who to drop before the season starts, since I still need to get a kicker as well.

This is exactly why my big money leagues don't see our draft day until after the preseason wraps up. With Jordy going down you are basically cooked.

I don't think I'm cooked at all. Losing Jordy sucks but having Matthews helps offset the injury a lot. I think losing Gronk or even Bridgewater might hurt more. WR is probably the easiest spot to replace due to injury.

For the record, I don't like drafting early either. However, I don't run the league and I have no control over it.

I play in a dynasty league where Benjamin and Nelson are owned by the same guy.

That's a nice team for a 16 team league.   I actually dropped out of a 16 team keeper league this year that I had been in for 5 years.   It was set up poorly, every team had 18 roster spots and it was a bad scoring system.   Almost every week all teams would have 3-4 guys go scoreless or only have 2-4 points.

    Thanks BWS, appreciate that.

I would hate to see the scoring system that has that kind of output. Generally 90 points will get you a win in this league. We also have $100 go to the highest score of the week. Gives incentive for everyone to keep playing even after they are elimated from playoff contention. Last year I win the high score the first week then $hit the bed after. Still though, Won half my buy in after the first week so it wasn't too bad. This leagues fun too, lots of trash talk. I once had a guy threaten to come to my house and fight me. Never a dull moment. Lol.

I like your avatar pic too. I met Musberger in a sports book I used to work at here in Vegas. Awesome guy. Actually told us a few stories for a couple minutes before he had to head to McCarren. Talked to us like anyone would with their friends. Always enjoy hearing him call games too.

I would say RB is the easiest position to replace due to injury ... WRs a little tougher ... WR is VERY thin this year .... there just isn't many quality WRs.

    Good luck this year.

Thanks for the input Jonner. I just think it's easier to grab a guy like Ty Montgomery or Jeff Janis than to figure out if Karlos Williams or Bryce Brown will be productive.

I'm not necessarily talking about stud WR's either. Just looking for productive ones. It could be that a guy like Williams or Brown goes for 60 yards and a TD in week 1 and Montgomery/Janis do nothing at all.

I just think it's easier to be proactive in replacing a WR than it is in having to replace an RB if you don't have their handcuff already rostered.

On a side note, I've been fielding several offers for Gronk and the Cincy D.

I keep getting offered Ebron, Randel, and a replacement level WR from the same guy.

I was also offered Sammy Watkins, Jordan Cameron, Bishop Sankey, Brandon Marshall for Gronk and Tate.

Declined them all. Any thoughts on those deals? Am I being too stubborn?
