Ah, the Maryland game. Always reminds me of the time I attended in College Park and had a drunk 70-year-old man moon our section.
Last year the story on this game was how Steve Slaton wanted to play for Maryland, and Maryland rescinded their scholarship offer. He ran all over them. This year, expect the same thing.
Everyone knows the strength and weaknesses of WVU. What I don't understand is how a 9-4 Maryland team returning all but 4 starters looks unimpressive against I-AA Villanova and I-AA wannabes FIU. After this game they have Wake Forest and Rutgers, rough schedule.
Rich Rodriquez just signed an extension and whether he admits it or not, he wants that National Title. Maryland's Jordan Steffy has been very accurate passing which means that the WVU defense is in for a long day again, however no one yet has stopped the offense from scoring and I look for at least another 35-40. WVU hasn't looked that great in the past at Maryland and so I think its too close to call. If Maryland shows up finally, they will cover. If you think Maryland overachieved last year and will continue to underperform, then take WVU. I'm afraid that Maryland is finally going to play up to their competition in this game and will wind up covering. Having a fairly strong pass offense makes it all the more likely that Maryland will cover this spread.
Safe play on this game is to take the over, because the point total will be somewhere between 70 and 100. I'm going to stay away from this game despite the fact that WVU has covered for me two weeks in a row. Good Luck all, I'll be watching from the sidelines.

I agree Wvu#1over seem like a safe bet here. Last week against Marshall, it was a lucky cover for me taking WVU early laying only 24 pts, at game time it went up to 25.5.. Wvu can score but seem to have trouble on defense.. Over here GL

In their last 10 meetings in the series, the home team is 7-3 ATS. In their last 7 meetings in the series, WVU is 2-5 ATS. In their last 5 meetings in their series, WVU is 1-4 ATS in Maryland. In the last 12 games against the ACC, WVU is 2-10 ATS.
Defenitely leaning towards Maryland covering the spread. Of course WVU will win, but I don't think they'll cover 15. I'm thinking a final score of 45-35 or near.

325, 339, 326, 301, 312, that is one massive o line FOR THE TERPS. i see a smash mouth type of game with west virginia and their playmakers winning but the terps covering.
west virginia - 31 maryland - 17

I am going to be on Maryland, hope it gets bet up higher. Last year WVU had to hang on after taking a 28-0 lead in the 1st quarter in Morgantown! I expect Maryland will finally show up this year after the 2 cupcake games.

WVU defense is questionable indeed, but the bigger question mark is the MD offense. Their QB last year was good when he got into rhythm, but I don't know anything about this new kid. We all know that WVU waxed MD last year in Morgantown, I saw a video of it here:https://jabth.blogspot.com/2007/09/wvu-md-anticipating-lots-of-action-on_10.html

Sorry folks, maryland gets the cover here. Maryland is getting too many points in this game, and all the indications are that this is a spot for the upset. Ralph Friedgen is a wonderful playcaller, which offsets some of the edge that WVU has on offense. Maryland is a team without superstars, so the public will generally line up on the other side. Last year WVU covered a 17 point spread at home. So why then is the spread the same on the road this time? This is a revenge game for Maryland, and they caome out in this game to play it tough. With Coach Rodriguez getting a new contract and all, this is a spot for a let down, and I feel that Maryland actually has a chance to set the world on fire and get an upset victory. I will take the spread in this game and add on a field goal. WVU is not any better this year on defense, but Maryland is better on offense despite not covering last week against Florida International, a game that I accurately predicted would be a cover for the underdog. Maryland is the kind of team that plays up or down to the level of competition depending on who they are playing. This is s an ACC school, and the level of defensive speed will be a little quicker than what WVU has seen the last couple of weeks. This represents WVU's first test of the season. For that I am taking the points

I was on WVU last week -25, and had a nice rollercoaster ride only to end with a push. Just like a day at the amusement park, one ride on the big coaster is enough. Can't say I have faith in the WVU D to cover.
On the other hand, MD should have smoked FIU last week, and had leftover points to put in the freezer for a lazy day. FIU is a really really bad team. The spread was 23 -- too low in my book -- and MD scores 16 in the 1st qtr and winds up winning by that same 16. You might think oh, MD probably turned the ball over. No -- they were +3 in TO's! Hardly a team I want to hold my money for 3 hours.
If pressed, I would probably play WVU, but so far this game has AVOID all over it for me.

Johnanthony that is the best ID pic yet..love it, and were can I get more?
as a far as this game though fellas...a little perplexed on this one. Does anyone know the home underdog record on ESPN thursday night?....if i recall over the past few years the away favorites don't shine in the national spotlight on thursday nights...(I am sure there are some state guys out there that could give us the numbers) I am a big west virgina fan and I am looking to make money on them as always, but can they cover 3 in a row? will the well run dry here?...I am leaning toward maryland or stay away...unless we get a resonable total set. Who knows too many questions just yet, may have to pass on this one.

Yes last week was a rollercoaster..But I will ride and die with my mounties!! And we played bad last week but in the end we coveed(-24) and won me 10units!!!!!!! Look for super steve to have a huge game for WVU in this ass whiping we are about to put on the terps in college park!!! It was hot in Huntington last weekend and I think that had to do with the outcome and the fact that its hard to get up for a game with a team that you know your 3rd string could beat!!! Not huge but look for the MOUNTAINEERS to cover and start the year off 3-0 str8 up and against the spread!!!!!! Good luck to all you fools that are going to take the terps because you are gonna need it..Me on the other hand, has FAITH in my squad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS GOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Final Score
WVU 49
TERPS 24

John Anthony, I don't know about middlin'... doubt it would work.
But if it hits at 17, that would be sweet, huh?
Wattleman, yes I do recall home dogs on Thursday have had fun in recent years. I remember winning with BC at home v. VT last year. But as for the series record, I would have to look it up.

I was gonna throw wvu in as a SU anchor, as I thought their lackluster first 30 minutes vs. Marshall would give rich rod just the medicine he needed to whip wvu into shape. But if Dykes sits, that's a major loss for wvu. If he's out, I may tease the Terps. I know what I want on this total, & I know the Props I want. But I won't ghost them.

Last week for WV was very impressive for the Duo in white and slaton, but still manage to cover the spread without them later in the game. I see Maryland putting up a defensive fight but not enough for WV.
Im taking WV to cover the 17 pts.

I just wanted to say good luck in all your wagers...
I have a problem should I middle?
Book 1 WV -16 1/2
Book 2 Terps + 17 1/2
you should get in the middle of those two.
no you shouldnt do it. it could hit but the odds are just a few % and if you did 100 such bets you'd for sure lose money over time in spite of the edge you get with the two diff lines. try that on a 3 or 7 only. for this game pick your side and throw a unit on it where its best. WVU is dropping most places. GL

I can't wait for this game because it will be pure entertainment for me and no sweating out either side. I will pass on this game.
Good point earlier in the thread by cocknocker about the Terps playing to the level of their competition. The Terps have been unimpressive in their first two games this season, so if they are to have any chance of covering, Maryland will need to put forth their A effort, which I think they will. True that about the underdogs getting more points because they don't have stars.
At the beginning of the season, this game looked like a nice upset spot, but after starting so sluggishly against Marshall last week, I don't think WVU will take Maryland lightly. In fact, things could snowball quick if WVU gets off to that first start.
Looking forward to passing on this game.
Good luck!

HOTT DANG!! You're on the right side there doc. Could you even get on a 'wrong' side, with those two? Why hellfire, even upside- down, you'd be on a good side. Goodside? What am I talkin' bout'? Sheesh!! WOOOO WEEEEE BOB!!
At first glance, I thought they were wearing uniforms, but then noticed they were 'painted' on. LORD...I never saw such a fine-looking 'star-spangled banner'...... before in my lifetime, nor a soccer ball, with 'cheeks' like those, either. Sign me up 'lickety-split' girls, I can kick a little too, and i can put my glasses on with my tongue, do thet count ary bit?

Put it this way, if WVU can play just a lil' defense they can cover all the way. That may seem like the donkey way of looking at it. I read in the Washington Post today that the FB for West Virginia showed his tapes to a MD coach a few years back and they told him to "stay at Wisconsin River-Falls." Ummm yah, MD is in for a long night if you ask me. Not to mention, we already knew Slaton hates us. Yeah, I said US. Take WVU -16.5. Over of course looks solid too.
