In the past 20 years, Tennessee has only been beaten by 30 points twice during the regular season. Interestingly enough, it was Florida both times - in 2007 at Florida (20-59) and in 1994 hosting Florida (0-31). They have, to my knowledge, never been a 30-point dog. The highest I can find is a 20-point dog to Memphis in 1991.
In none of these instances did they have a veteran NFL Defensive Coordinator like they do with Monte Kiffin today.
The most points they've allowed in 20 years is that trip to Florida in 2007. Other than that game, they seldom allow 40 points against them in a game. Boys, Tennessee may have trouble on the Offensive side of the ball, but make no mistake - they are a defensive team. They have been a defensive team for at least 20 years. They recruit D. They win games with their D. They cover spreads with that D.
In conclusion: Does Crompton suck terribly? Yes. Will the Vols score more than 20 points? Doubtful. Will they cover +30? I'm betting on it.
