Why cant UGA get a new DC ?

 Mark Richt has made Kirby Smart,John Chavis,Bud Foster,and Vic Koenning wealthier men for sure.Next up,Dallas Cowboys D line coach Todd Grantham.

The Georgia media is really starting to turn on Mark Richt,it would be in his best interest to sign someone soon.But if you look at who's turning him down it makes perfect sense.Smart,Chavis,and Foster all had UGA's offers matched by their current schools and Illinois outbid UGA for Koenning.Furthermore I doubt that Foster was ever very serious about relocating to Athens and the Bulldogs were right not to get involved in a bidding war for someone that would be on the lower end of their wishlist (Koenning).One thing is certain however,whoever  the next Bulldog DC is,they will be an improvement over Willie Martinez.

The main reason UGA can’t get a good established defensive coordinator is because no one knows how long Richt and the current staff are going to be there.  People are very reluctant to leave a job with great job security for one with poor- below average job security, even if they double your salary.

Richt has nothing to worry about.  His job security is about as good as it gets.  The only one offered the DC job at this point is Kirby Smart.  It was a done deal until the 11th hour.  The DC job will be filled in the next 7-10 days.

Well your friend is wrong.  You can choose who you want to believe but Richt is the best hire UGA has ever made.  He has full reign over the football program other than admissions.  You can take that to the bank.  Damon Evans is just a figure head AD.  Richt will be at UGA as long as he wants to coach there.

You must care or you wouldn't have wasted your time in posting.  It doesn't matter if you write an essay, journal or short story....you and your friend r dead wrong.  I'm not the average fan, that is why I corrected you and posted the accurate info.  If you want REAL information when it comes to UGA, let me know. Your friend is so far off base he might as well be on pluto.

There was no interest from Foster or Chavis thats why they were never offered.  Were they talked to.....of course......but never offered.  Richt had his eyes on Smart for some time and there was a handshake deal for weeks.  Smart even signed the tender sheet for the contract yesterday.   He backed out at the last minute.  Had nothing to do with Garner.

Wrong again.  I said I didn’t care enough to type out a long essay on why you are wrong.  I don’t mind typing a quick 60 second post to show you don’t have a clue as to what you are blathering about.  The OP asked a question and I gave him an answer based on what a Georgia football coach told me.   If you want to delude yourself into believing you know more about the situation than an actual Georgia coach, have at it, kid.  As for the rest of us, we’ll stick to reality.

Seriously, Mark Richt is overrated. He just doesnt have the killer in him to compete against Saban or Meyer. Those two will do anything to get the player. Richt is too nice of a guy.

Some UGA fans will say he's the best thing ever, but the real ones question him. UGA deserves better than what they've done. How many BIG games have they won? I think their biggest bowl victory was against Hawaii? Come on, expectations should be higher for that program. Yeah, he took over a rough program at the time, but I always held UGA at a higher level.

Richt doesnt do it for me. He's just too nice of a guy to be in the SEC. He's be great at a place like Oklahoma State.

Again straightshooter and anyone who lives in la-la land with regard to Richt and UGA football......you guys are so far off base its laughable.  I would ask you to look at the coaches who have come and gone under Richt.  UGA football is a placard for stability.  Richt had a difficult decision to make this year and he made it b/c it was best for the program.  However, to say that UGA has below average job security is absurd.  The fact that straightshooter even mentions this shows how far out of touch he is about UGA football.

And stay classy shooter, I certainly ain't no kid.  I've forgotten more about UGA football than you will ever learn or know.  That ain't a dig at you....its just the truth.  I've been in and around that program for over 20 years.  Now go back and continue picking winners.

Good reasonable post....but you have to put it in perspective.  At AU and UT there were other underlying issues which precipitated the exits of those coaches.  Too many to list.

With UGA, Richt has led the football program to its best years/decade. He has put us back on the map.  We had chances to win it all with a little luck in 2002, 2005 and 2007.  I'll take those odds.  We were almost there in 2009, but injuries and immaturity killed out hopes.

No coach is above the program, i'll give you that.  But Richt is about as close to it as any other coach in America.  This year was an anomaly.....he is due a mulligan.  Are there concerns...sure...but there are with any program.  I trust Richt to right the ship and he has earned the right to do so.  The team is loaded with young blue chips on both sides of the ball.  So the fact that some think UGA is slipping due to Richt and his job is in jeapordy.....think again.
