You will see a lot of overmatched teams get rolled next year with starters playing into the 4th quarters to win by 70.

And don't discount the Urban Meyer factor.  I'm sure everyone on the committee wanted to see him in the mix.

We can argue about who should be #1....But the one thing that isn't debatable is just what I said. IF Bama went 14-0 last year and won every game this season by skin of their teeth.... EsecPN and this forum would never agree that they should pulled away from that #1 spot.

There is a bias...Plain and simple
.         Boom,I think having FSU #1 is old school 'small thinking'With straight face after watching FSU vs Florida u can honestly say FSU is the #1 team in the country? Not no,but hell no.Difference in Bama and FSU is that many people view FSU as having that Winston weapon while Bama its just rotating 5 star recruits.I don't get the Ole Piss comments non stop when u are better than that.Bro,u always seem to harp how hard it is to win at certain schools .I don't see how there is a more difficult place to coach.I know u don't respect the SEC West that MANY say "2014 SEC West is the greatest division ever assembled in CFB history'' I didn't say it...Its the so called experts.Man,what Hugh Freeze has done is nothing short of remarkable. They are a decent Qb from winning it all.Look, just give credit to Freeze.I sometimes wonder if u gmhave a Bill Snyder shrine. You fail to mention Snyder has had 2 chances as favorites to win the National title and BLEW both of them...All I'm saying is give credit where its due.Ole Miss has a good football team. This Royal Recruiting class of Hugh Freeze are just sophomores.Go look up how many 4-5 star recruits live within 150 miles of campus...it ain't many.I don't think u give close to the amount of credit for Freeze having to play Bama,LSU,MissSt,Auburn,Arkansas,TexasA&M every year and he did beat #1 Bama & #1_Much of season MissSt.That's a great road trip just for the view.Lordy,BYU walking around campus..Bring em Young.Dolling.U U sound like u just want to bully Ole Miss and be an ACC spokeman.Just curious why do u have it out for Ole Miss?A MissSt guy asked me and I honestly replied John Bond Can so called scandle. The thing that bugs me about a lot of FSU fans is they are bandwagon fans or like them for their colors. Why would I care who someone else cheers for.Sick of their mouths...Just fess up Boom .Admit u are pulling for FSU.November CFB & NFL is usually gravy 2game 6pt tease month. Not this year.I am liking Ole Miss with the points vs TCU...Boom,if Baylor or TCU would have been replaced with Oklahoma or Texas what happens?

Vegas uses Sagarin as a tool way to predict public money, that is all. They don't look at his numbers and set lines according to his actual numbers. For instance, Alabama is -10. Sagarin has them at -4. Obviously they are not using Sagarin's actual numbers, not even close. They are using the fact that the public will see Sagarin's -4 in the USA Today paper or online and see the real line and bet OSU thinking they are getting 6 points of value. Once again, Sagarin has never hit 53% in a season. Sagarin is a money loser. If anything, Vegas actually in a way fades Sagarin at times because it is used by  the most people. Sagarin is Joe Public's betting tool. How many other rankings are published in a nationally distributed newspaper? My 15 year old nephew knows what Sagarin is. He has no idea what Colley Matrix or Billingsley are. You would actually have to make a concerted effort to find them and know where to look. My wife can pick up a USA Today or be on their site and find his ratings .There have been many articles on Sagarin and it's usefulness, I believe Vegasinsider had one recently. I will check Sagarin to see how close my # is. If it is way off from mine and leads me to believe I can get a better #, I will hold off on the bet. That is all it is useful for.

The nutcase I was talking to thinks Sagarin is some kind of god of the gambling world. He tried to say that the Cincinnati Bengals should have been -7 in Foxboro awhile back because Sagarin said so LMAO . He started  a whole thread trying to insult anyone's intelligence who would dare to back NE in that game going as far to say he would delete his account if NE went 9-7. We all know how that worked out. He is still here insulting other people for their opinions claiming he is smarter than everyone in the world. Yet the guy is constantly so far off base its hilarious. Every thread this crazy posts BS like this, its either a monkey throwing feces, or a the guy swallowing loads. There is no intelligent debate, no facts at all used by him... its basically I am the smartest man in the world( even though he is a moron). I just want the crazy to stop cluttering up peoples threads with his BS. The Fact that this nut job thinks ESPN's FPI is an actual legitimate tool for gambling is a testament to his delusions. You could pull #'s out of a hat and post them with a Sagarin label and this crazy will defend them to the end, even if they went 0-1000. The guy just never learns. LOL

Cornholio-

You are crazy to think that the average Joe Square better uses Sagarin to place his bets- your average better doesn't know who Sagarin is at all- you can bet your azz on that- the average Joe Square better sees that favorites and thinks that who is going to win and bets that number- your average better isn't smart enough to use anything else!

Which means what? All you need to do is go to Rivals, ESPN, Scout or any other reputable rating service and see how many of the nation's top 10, 20, 50, 100 or whatever number you choose and see how many of them come from outside of SEC country, Texas or Southern California. It will probably amaze you. You're obviously a Pavel Datsyuk fan (as am I.....for my two cents he's the best puck handler in the history of the game), so I hope you will heed this sound advice and at least stay away from the Buckeyes when they play Bama.

No, they are not!  They are listed on his page to show a frame of reference for other sets of power rankings, developed by other people... but they are NOT Sagarin, and they are not used to create his rankings...

And yes, Vegas books absolutely do consult Sagarin and other sets of Power Rankings to formulate their odds... but more importantly, Power Rankings are not "opinions"... the books don't need to consult them, because they use the same types of formulas to create their own Power Rankings... it is a purely statistical way to quantify teams, based on their performance against other teams...

They don't need to consult anybody else's, but the books aren't stupid!  They use every tool at their disposal, and they reference whoever they need to reference to determine the best lines for their games...

    Thanks for playing!

To clarify, the golden mean and Predictor, along with ELO, are formulated using different sets of criteria, and Sagarin does weight his by referencing these as well... but his rankings have been around for decades longer than either of these systems, and only recently did he incorporate them... however, the methods used to obtain all 4 sets of numbers are different...

Also, ELO is not really useful for handicapping point spreads, and I think actually skews the number improperly, since it is based on just winning or losing a game... it does not take any pointspreads into consideration... so for purposes of handicapping (ATS), it isn't particularly useful...

But again, these are just 3 (or 4) among many PRs out there... some are more valid than others, and only some are actually recognized as valid... and the general point is... creating your own set of PRs is not that difficult... I do it every year... and if you know what you're doing, you come up with numbers very similar to the ones used by the sportsbooks, and can reliably predict what the pointspreads will be...

    Wow really? LMAO

The Golden Mean is a "formula" made by Sagarin.

Pure Points or the Predictor model is a formula created by Sagarin.

So is elo chess.  It just removed MOV, so he says. They are all created by Sagarin.

The predictor or pure points formula is the one he started with long ago.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IT SAYS IT RIGHT ON THE PAGE ABOVE HIS RANKINGS. Are you trying to say Sagarin is lying or doesn't know what his own formulas are and you do ? Holy crap you are nuts.

OMG Wow, as I typed you backtracked after you went and looked at his site and then regurgitated what little your feeble mind could.Priceless. LMAO

Power rankings are most definitely opinions. That is why they are different. They value different things. It is the author's OPINION of what factors should be included in the formula. If they weren't opinions, they would be 100% accurate and there would be only 1. They are very subjective. I can make a "power ranking" according to uniform color and use a quantitative formula. Does that mean it is valid? Absolutely not.

Absolutely did not and would never tail you or anyone, especially someone who doesn't even understand Sagarin. I was just amazed that someone would create a thread specifically to insult people and boast about their ingenious Sagarin inspired line and play, call out people who intelligently question your logic and method, challenge them and their integrity, then backtrack after you lose in Fantastic and obvious fashion and still insult people that were right all along.  The whole time proclaiming your superior intellect and abilities while all you did was incorrectly use Sagarin's Predictor. I didn't even post anything on that thread, I just watched the slow motion car wreck that is you in amazement. The  only reason I even remembered who you are is your condescending tone. You have repeatedly appeared in other peoples threads with the same exact tone and done the same exact thing over and over again. Just Shut up already. Haven't you made yourself look dumb enough? It's like you never learn. Geezus. I know many other people have said the same exact thing. STFU already. We get it, your a psycho idiot.

I agree that Fla St as last years champions and undefeated should be in the final four.
