there will never be a true national champion crowned in college football as long as the bcs is involved. last nights game was so pathetic and agonizing to watch. fortunately i tailed some good cappers (thanks for the alabama side rush) thru the bowl season and i just want to thank all of you for your hard work and efforts.
but back to the topic at hand....its hard to fathom how teams are selected to play in this so called "national championship" game. there are a lot of teams out there that could have played in this game or at least have a strong case for being there last night but we will never know. i.e. oklahoma state, oregon, stanford just to name a few would probably have been a better matchup since they IMO possess better offenses than lsu. why not have the number one defense in the nation match up against the number one offense in the nation for all the marbles? now there is something worth watching and would settle any debate as far as which unit wins championships...a solid number one defense? or a number one high octane offense? then again, maybe it won't get to that point of a number one offense vs a number one defense. and this is the beauty of a playoff...to possibly find these matchups.
college football is the only collegiate sport that does not have a playoff system to crown its champion. if those geniuses who came up with this bcs put their collective heads together, im pretty sure they could find a way to make some kind of playoff format to have a true national champion. a lack of money/funding should not be used as an excuse to NOT have a playoff. the lower divisions do perfectly fine financially with a playoff system. maybe we can ask president obama for a little bit of cash to get this thing going (just kidding).
with the way lsu played last night, im pretty sure one of the aforementioned teams would/could probably beat lsu to reach the national championship game and play whoever was the champion on the other side of the bracket. on any given day any team can beat anybody.
i believe that college football fans and bettors alike deserve better than what we saw last night. we all deserve to see a true national champion crowned...the right way. take nothing away from alabama or lsu for they are great programs. had there been a playoff, they would both be in. and had they both won in their respected brackets and had met in last nights national championship, then so be it. thats how it played out. lets not have computers decide who gets to play for the prize. lets add a little spice or as chef emeril lagasse would say, "BAM! LET'S KICK IT UP A NOTCH!" and add some of these other teams to add flair and drama to see who is the "true" national champion.
