Around the SEC week 5

1. Chris Relf is not the answer for Dan Mullen. He struggles to complete passes over 5 yds and often times seems like he is not on the same page as his receivers. The lack of urgency and nonchalance he showed in the Georgia game was tough to watch as a football fan in general.

2. Bama is a beast. The only complaint i have with them is the lull that went into them in the 3rd quarter. I think most everyone knew the game was in hand at 24-10 but when Brantley went down Bama should have smelled blood in the water. They should have upped the intensity driven down and put the nail in the coffin, but it seemed just the opposite a couple 3 and outs before Saban decided he wanted to cut it loose a bit. Anyways Bama's O-line, Running Backs, and Linebackers are a force to be reckoned with.

3. Fla you are who we thought you were. Last years team with a lot more confidence and swagger. But pick your head up Bama is going to do that to a few more teams this year on their way to the national championship. Just beat GA and USC which you should have no problem doing even with a freshman QB and things will be breezy in the sunshine state...until you play bama again in the SEC championship. you probably shouldn't show up

3. SEC running backs are fun to watch. Richardson, Dyer, Lattimore (even though he only had one carry worth writing home about) Crowell, and LSU's stable, those boys are tough like to hit and go north and south on a football field in a hurry.

4. Georgia is back in the race with a Fla and USC loss, but they still look a little lost. GA only sustained one drive against state, the majority of their possessions started inside states own 45. Just a sloppy football game on both sides of the ball.

5. LSU did what everyone does to Kentucky...blew them out

6. Auburn played Jekkel and Hyde. The defense looked much improved holding Lattimore to 66 yds. D-line got some pressure linebackers made some tackles, but as an offense how do you run 90+ plays and only score 16 pts? As I mentioned above Chris Relf is not Dan Mullen's answer...Barrett Trotter is not Gus Malzon's answer. Btw Russell Wilson sure does look good for those badgers.

7. If defense is your teams problem circle South Carolina on your schedule bc Steven Garcia is a defense's best friend.

those are just some notes of mine from last weekend's SEC ball. Can't wait to see some lines of GA/Tenn, Fla/LSU, Aub/Ark should be a good weekend to watch football.

Already firing in on a few early lines

Boise -20.5 (-120) 3 units - like that Boise got jumped in polls, coupled with the fact that Fresno's defense is allowing 5.9 yds/play (allowed 7 yds/play to a putrid ol miss offense) With Boise's balanced attack they should have no problem moving the ball on this below avg. defense.

Alabama -27.5 (-130) 3 units

Alabama's defense vs. Vandy's offense - Vandy's offense has been bad to put it mildly so far this year. They avg 4.4 yds/play and that's against the likes of Ol Miss, South Carolina, Elon and Uconn. None of which have the NFL caliber defense the Crimson Tide has. I would be suprised if Vandy crossed the fifty against the starters and would be suprised if they got in the red zone against the second teamers.

Alabama's Offense vs. Vandy's Defense - Vandy has lived off of turnovers this year (16 total turnovers 14 picks 3 defensive TD's), but this Alabama team does not turn the ball over. (7 total turnovers none since week 3 and no picks since the first game) They run hard up the gut until the defense is too tired/exhuasted to keep up. Alabama is playing like men among boys right now. I feel confident their second team with Sims and Lacey will have no problem with this undersized Vanderbilt team. Vandy is just not equipped right now depth or talent wise to handle this Alabama team on any side of the ball.

GT -13.5 (-130) 3 units

Fool me once shame on me fool me twice shame on you...

GT got the best of me last week with that ridiculous 4th quarter, but I don't see that happening this week at home against a Maryland team who has been struggling most of the year. Maryland is allowing over 4 yds/carry and a 50% conversion rate on opponents 3rd downs. Maryland allowed 170 yds rushing against Miami, 250+ against Temple, and 160 to Towson. GT should run at will against this Terps defense. This is also Maryland's first road test. I know GT is not the Swamp or Death Valley but playing on the road is tough anywhere. I expect GT to roll up Maryland with no problems this weekend.

Auburn +10 and over....I know I said last week Auburn looks like fade material, but then they come out and suprise you by actually playing a little defense. Still don't have a good feel for those guys yet.

Tenn +1...With another GA linebacker out and Tenn playing at home I'm liking Tyler Brays chances to light up this Georgia secondary.

LSU - whatever....Freshman quarterback going into Death Valley for his first career start. Good luck kid I hope you come out alive.

Wonder how much the loss of UGA  OLB Washington will impact this improving Def. ?  He had two sacks agst MSU;some were saying his best game yet.  His pressure on Bray will certainly be missed.  UGA offense has sucked wind 2nd half the last two wks; function of Bobo going conservative ? 

 Wonder why Miss St is 17 pt fav? frankly,they looked like crap.  I'm thinking Arky offense is gonna light up that Aub secondary.

Tappy -  petrino has always put up points against auburn wouldn't be suprised to see him put up a bunch against this defense. The only thing that would keep Auburn in the game is Arkansas run defense. I think they are giving up 5+ yds/carry. Chizik seems content to hand Dyer the bulk of the load now, and with Arkanasas beat up on D  they may be able to keep up with Tyler Wilson and Co.

Atlanta - as of right now just a lean haven't looked much into it. But I like Tenn at home Knoxville gets pretty loud and the fans will definitely be into it. I understand Tenn is one dimensional, and Ga's pass rush is improving (9 sacks in the past 2 games) They will definitely put some pressure on Bray. I'm more concernced with Ga's offense. They only avg 4.3 yds/play against an avg Miss St. defense (Auburn and LSU avg 6.5 & 5.6 respectively) If State had not given them the ball inside their own 30 a few times I doubt GA would have lit up the scoreboard as often as they did. In conclusion I think Bray will probably hit a few big plays and home field will be enough to pull out a close one.  good luck to your dawgs tho

fts - Miss St has looked terrible they shouldn't be laying points to anyone. Auburn's secondary's stats look decent from last week but that was mainly to Garcia missing open receiver's and making bad reads. Still not convinced Auburn can tackle well in the open field (ie Joe Adams in open space should cause problems) If Auburn cannot pressure Wilson that secondary will get torched

LSU -13.5 4 units

I would have preferred a tighter game in the Fla/Bama game to get a better line on this but still think at 13.5 there is still value. Fla got absolutely throttled by Alabama last week at home in the swamp. Playing this Bama team is not like playing a PAC 12 team like Oregon/Cal someone who will beat you with speed.
When you play Bama its a fight from beginning to end. So its really not fair for to have to come into Death Valley to play LSU when the week before they were hanging out at the Kentucky derby drinking mint julieps just thinking about playing Fla. Fla's d-line and linebackers are banged up from the Trent Richardson Show they starred in last week. Spencer Ware, Michael Ford, and Alfred Blue are not Trent Richardson by any means but everyone of those guys tip the scales at 220 and love to run through ppl. LSU pound the ball up the middle mix in a play action or two just to keep Fla off balance enough for the offense to put up around 28-31 points.

LSU's defense is as good if not better than Bama's (allowing 3.8 yds/play and 2 yds/carry) This defense at home against a freshman qb making his first career start is going to get ugly. Driskel's career passing stats: 7 for 16, 2 picks, 0 TD's, and a 57.8 passer rating...i'm not liking his chances.

Looks like 4 and 0 to me . USC is about as overrated as they come.

U just love bama, Auburn will be in the game, may even win....
