not a real word, but i'll bet it ends up in the dictionary as much as it gets used by broadcasters.

The thing is, "trickeration" (were it a real word) means the exact same thing as "trickery." i.e. "this team has been utilizing trickery/trickeration tonight" or "Oh! Rutgers with a little bit of trickery/trickeration!" or "This coach is particularly fond of trickery/trickeration."

I don't understand how, presented with a choice between a perfectly acceptable real word and a word that makes you sound like an uneducated jock, these people still choose the latter.

It's like when people say "irregardless" instead of "regardless" or "anyways" instead of "anyway."  Those are not words - you are making sh** up just like George Bush.

Not sure this is on topic but........

The usage error that bugs me most is the misuse of the word "before" when the announcer means "until," as in, "Brought down by Jones, but not before he gained 16 yards....."

Well shit. Of course he didn't tackle the guy before he gained 16 yards or he wouldn't have gained 16 yards you illiterate fuck. Yet every single play by play guy on the air does it. You won't hear a single announcer get it right.....

Dude, we are not stupid. We know that and so do all of the broadcasters who say it. It's just funny!!! You and the grammar issues on a sportstalk website is ridiculous. By the way, I went to college with a masters from UGA. You have become a pariah on this website b/c of this crap. You remind me of the nerdy kid that is the Hall Monitor in grade school who is asking for everyones hall pass. Beat It!

Well, we need it about as much as we need every thread of a guy complaining about getting moosed, or a guy with six posts giving us his LOCKS OF THE CENTURY.

It's an internet forum.  It's not real life.  People complain, get over it.

I happen to get annoyed when people butcher the English language... on a scale of 1-10 it bothers me maybe at about a 1.2, probably the same level as a mosquito bite. 

It also bugs me when people criticize 18 year old athletes, when coaches make -EV decisions, and when announcers don't know what they are talking about. (Ex: the announcer in the Utah game tonight referring to the 'two minute warning' several times.)

Clearly posts that you deem worthless bug you a LOT more than borderline illiteracy bothers me, so maybe you are the one that needs to examine why you are catching feelings so hard when I criticize announcers and then you respond "WE are not stupid..." as if I was pointing a finger at you.



Then again, maybe you are still mad because you made a post giving everybody your in-depth, insider analysis of what a great team "Cincinatti" was.

Last year?? No, no no my friend.  This "word" has been around for years, and it's getting used more and more frequently.  In fact, I can't remember the last time I actually heard to real word, "trickery."

By the way, how come in everyday speech, it's de-FENCE, like "I support spending on national de-FENCE" or "the de-FENCE attorney rests his case," but in sports its DE-fence?  "the DE-fence looks strong out there tonight," "yeah that team has a good DE-fence?"

Always wondered about that.

i prefer tomfoolery to trickeration, but i just looked it up and it means playful or foolish behavior. i think i use it right still. ex. look at these assholes and their tomfoolery, enough with the fakes. also i think i say anyways every single post. i dropped out of college after 1st semester though so i will continue to use both. even though i probably shouldve learned the anyways thing around 5th grade.

Haha, "tomfoolery" is a great word.  I love announcers that can use colorful euphemisms and metaphors descriptively, or can reference popular culture.

When Stu Scott was doing highlights of a WVU game last year, he threw in "...WE MUST IGNITE THIS COUCH," a play on the underarmour commercials and WV students' penchant for lighting couches on fire, I almost died from sheer brilliance.

I also remember when one of the SC anchors (Kenny Mayne?) was doing baseball highlights, and he just sat there quietly for a second, and then when someone hit a homerun simply commented, "....annnd boom goes the dynamite."

I know I'm taking this a little too seriously, but I feel like there is a huge shortage of talent in CFB commenting today.  There should be knowledgeable commentators with deep understanding of the intricacies of the game and entertaining color guys.  Too often, we are forced to listen to two boring idiots who know less about football than most fans and who are about as interesting as a dishwasher.
